Questions about upgrading

    I would like to upgrade, but I have questions that are not in your FAQs. Could someone contact me to answer those questions?

    Why don’t you just ask the questions here? Nobody is going to email you and walk you through the process, but there are plenty of skilled and experienced volunteer and staff in the forums here. Ask away.

    I’m just not familiar with how this works; I thought I was sending the message to staff.

    My two most important questions are:
    1) When I get my own domain name, what happens to links to the WordPress addresses? I heavily use links and there are links to my blog all over the web, so I’m not about to shift if those will all go dead.
    2) I would like to install a donate button, and to provide links to sell my book and other merchandise; is that permissible with the regular upgrade, or do I need some special commercial upgrade?

    1) all the old links work, but essentially you have two addresses now. The pre-existing links will continue to work, but the new links to whatever.com will only work as long as you renew the domain name and mapping.

    2) You can sell your own book and your own products that you produce with your own hands via a Paypal button as described in the Support documents. You cannot sell stuff other people make on WordPress.com.

    What about a donate button, and is it OK to link to a separate site which sells licensed merchandise that others make under my direction (ie T-shirts, mugs, etc with my logo on ’em)?
