Put Slider above Front page content in Twenty Eleven & Hide recent post

  • Hi,
    I want to put Post Slider above Showcase page content in Twenty Eleven Theme.
    Is it possible with CSS customization or somehow else?
    Also How to hide recent post from Home page which is showcase page?

    The blog I need help with is oasiswebsite.wordpress.com.

    The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

  • You could hide the recent posts section in the showcase page with this custom CSS:

    .page-template-showcase .recent-posts {
      display: none;
    }

    The slider can’t really be moved easily.

  • Thanks kathrynwp,
    It worked. Now recent post is not visible.
    But I could not hide Sidebar with that command.
    do I need to add something in CSS?

    The slider can’t really be moved easily.
    But how can we move with difficulty also?
    It is our requirement of design.

    Or else can we shift front page content below slider?
    My front page is static page with a table including images in it.
    I need it below slider.

    Sorry if I am troubling you.
    Thanks in advance.
    It is one or the same thing I want.

  • @oasiswebsite,

    aside#upcoming_events_widget-7 {
    display: none;
    }

    This CSS will hide the upcoming widget area including the currently showing “No upcoming events” message.

    As @kathrynwp said, it is not easy to move the slider to the top using CSS.

    My best suggestion to move the slider to the top would be:

    1. Remove the current front page content which is the table including images in it. This will result in slider moving to the top of the page as the page contents are now empty.

    2. Move the removed table in the front page to the a non sticky post so the table appears just beneath the slider. (Sticky post will move the table post to the slider, as per Twenty Eleven’s design.)

    3. Use this CSS to remove “RECENT POSTS” label.

    h1.showcase-heading {
    display: none;
    }

    However you should ensure the date of the post created in step#2 is the latest so it always appears as the latest post under the slider. Otherwise the latest page will take up table post’s space and pushes table post to the blogs page. To prevent this, you should keep updating the date of the table post to be the latest.

    I believe this approach is better than fiddling with CSS.

  • Also, the current Blog pages show at most = 1 setting in the Dashboard > Settings > Reading page should be retained. Otherwise the additional posts (actually, just post titles) will show up under the table post.

  • Thanks chaitanyabhai,
    I think it will be useful. I will try & revert back in some time.

  • Dear Chaitanya,
    I had tried to put home page content on first & only recent post but it doesn’t look good.
    Isn’t there really any way where I can put Post slider above Front page content?
    Also Is is possible to change the colours of main block inside which content is there?

  • I don’t have further suggestions. I am sorry, I could not be helpful. Cheers.

    Not in Twenty Eleven. If this is important to you, I’d suggest looking for another theme that better suits your needs.

    Also Is is possible to change the colours of main block inside which content is there?

    Could you let me know which specific colours you’re looking to change?

  • Thanks kathrynwp

    I have seen many themes. I could not get any other theme which allows
    (a) Both post Slider as well as Front page html content together
    (b) Responsive/Fluid Theme
    (c) Bottom widget
    (d) custom menu/background/fonts/layout/CSS

    Have a look at http://www.oasiswebsite.wordpress.com
    There is main White block inside which whole content is there. Can I change its colour to light yellow or something else.

  • Give this a try:

    .home .post-138 {
        background-color: #ffffe0;
    }

    That’ll cover everything up to the featured post.

  • You might also want to check out Widely:

    Info: http://theme.wordpress.com/themes/widely/
    Demo: http://widelydemo.wordpress.com/

    I just tested it and think it might meet all your requirements.

    Just note you can tweak CSS and fonts only with the Custom Design – that isn’t something restricted by any particular theme.
