Publicize changes

  • We wanted to update you about an upcoming change Facebook is introducing to their platform, and which affects how you may share posts from your website to your Facebook account.

Starting August 1, 2018, third-party tools can no longer share posts automatically to Facebook Profiles. This includes Publicize, the WordPress.com tool that connects your site to major social media platforms (like Twitter, LinkedIn, and Facebook).

Will this affect your ability to share content on Facebook? It depends. If you’ve connected a Facebook Profile to your site, then yes: Publicize will no longer be able to share your posts to Facebook. On the other hand, nothing will change if you keep a Facebook Page connected to your site — all your content should still appear directly on Facebook via Publicize. (Not sure what the difference is between a Page and a Profile? Here’s Facebook’s explanation.) Manually sharing via the sharing button will not be affected by this change.

If you’ve previously connected a Facebook Profile to your WordPress.com site and still want your Facebook followers to see your posts, you have two options. First, you could go the manual route: once you publish a new post, copy its URL and share the link in a new Facebook post. The other option is to convert your Facebook Profile to a Page. This might not be the right solution for everyone, but it’s something to consider if your website focuses on your business, organization, or brand.

While Facebook is introducing this change to improve their platform and prevent the misuse of personal profiles, we’re sorry that this might cause a disruption in the way you and your Facebook followers interact. If you’d like to share your concerns with Facebook, head to their Help Community.

    Path connections

The social media platform Path has announced that their service will be shutting down on 18 October, so it is also no longer possible to create new connections for that service.

  • Update:

It appears there’s now a problem with connecting/reconnecting Facebook pages as well. Our developers are investigating and we’ll hopefully have it fixed soon.

  • Update:

The issue with connecting pages has been fixed.

  • Hello, when i try to connect to page. it can not show all the page on my facebook. It seems only some new build page show there. How can i solve it. Because my facebook have many many page.

  • @peterleemachinery, that is a known problem if you have too many pages in your Facebook account, and is not related to the issue described above.

The only solution in your case is to use a different Facebook account that’s also an admin on the page to make the connection.

If you have more questions about this, please start a new thread at https://en.forums.wordpress.com/?new=1

  • ok thanks I will try that.

  • Please help!!! I am not an expert in computers and manage normally in a roundabout way, but this has foxed me totally. I have always been able to share my blog to facebook, but I now have tried to reconnect the link and followed all your all your guidance but still no luck. Please help!!!

  • @artwithyvette, if you’re trying to connect to your personal Facebook account at My Site ->Sharing, it will no longer work. Facebook has removed that option, so it’s not possible any more.

It’s now only possible to connect a Facebook Page to your site. If you want to share to your personal profile, you’ll need to do it manually using a share button on your site, or by copy-pasting the link to Facebook.

If you are trying to connect a page and that’s not working, please create a new thread, and include links to both your WordPress.com site and to the Facebook page you’re trying to connect, and we’ll take a look there:

  • I installed a new jetpack theme, dyad 2. It looks great on the preview for mobile and computer, so I publish it. It looks great on computer and table, the mobile looks like the old theme still. How do I fix it? I have tried all I can think of.

  • @osborne04 – Please don’t ask irrelevant to the topic of this thread questions. Since your site is self-hosted you need to post either on the Jetpack forums:

    or the WordPress.org forums:
