The new Twenty Seventeen theme is available now at WordPress dot ORG along with WP version 4.7. It looks way cool! Do we know when it might show up here at dot COM?
The blog I need help with is: scvgs.org
I see:
Twenty Seventeen By WordPress.orgI do not see a WordPress.COM version in our Themes Showcase yet.
Howdy –
We will need to wait until 2017 rolls around :)
Twenty Sixteen was made available a year ago today, on 12/10/2015. I was hoping Santa might come early again this year! ;-)
As am I [hoping for Twenty Seventeen now].
Our team is working hard to make it available for you. It’s just not quite ready.
Thank you. Knowing something is MUCH better than the apparent void I was experiencing. I”m checking multiple times a day–I mean a LOT! Best!

Today, I see changes in my blog editor. I hope that is a promising sign.
I got a reply from staff member David A. Kennedy (who is one of the people working on the Twenty Seventeen theme) to my question on the WordPress Tavern website/blog about the Twenty Seventeen theme :) :
-John Jr
Thanks, John Jr for asking and sharing the response you received from the WordPress Tavern website. You have provided us with more information than the WordPress.com staff.
I am concerned and sorely disappointed that WordPress.com has not published anything on the status of the Twenty Seventeen Theme. Members should NOT have to come to the support forum to get a status on the default theme that we are accustomed to having during the second week of December.
Yes, it is free and we appreciate the time it takes to get it right. Very good engineers! Again, the issue is communication and how responsive WordPress staff is to its members.
I expect more! I pay my way here and think we all deserve better.
I am hoping we have the new theme before January as stated in the link John Jr gave. I hope more that we can read an official document [not a post on this thread] as to what is going on with the Twenty Seventeen Theme. It looks like Lizkarkoski was on to something when she said:
Howdy – We will need to wait until 2017 rolls around :)
To me, that seemed to be a non-serious answer to the OP. Now, apparently, it may be reality.
Come on guys…
James
Having the latest and greatest WP default theme is always special, but every theme introduced on WordPressdotcom has to be modified to work with our particular environment. As @lizkarkoski also said
Our team is working hard to make it available for you. It’s just not quite ready.
I’m sure they’ll let us know when it is. :)
Sure, I understand that.
My point is the lack of communication from the WordPress.com staff to its members. I think most know no more than what is written here, if they may have found this thread. It is okay to give us a news article that says what is going on.
My hope was that you would have addressed that point as opposed to the effort “to get it right.” We respect that. Who needs a buggy blogging experience.
Thanks for your reply.

James, staff is aware. We have some configuration differences between our setup and standard installations, and we’re working through integrations. Thanks for your patience.
Thank you.
I am asking that you tell your members through an article so that those who await Twenty Seventeen know what is going on.
We appreciate what you and doing and know you will resolve issues and that we will enjoy using the theme when it is released.
Best!
James
Ah I misunderstood what you were saying. While we don’t plan on blogging about integration details, hopefully the answers here are helpful to those who seek them. Cheers :)
I am not asking that you blog about integration detail–just say there is a delay and when you expect to release the theme.
I looked for the number of Twenty Sixteen Subscribers, but do not find it. You cannot know how many will use the default theme when it is released.
I do not think you should expect “buyers” to go looking to see if there is a delay and why. WordPress.com is “selling” a product. Seems you would want potential buyers [subscribers] to be informed.
I really think WordPress.com personnel are making the public relations aspect of the release of this theme more difficult than needs to be.
Hey, I’m done…
James
I’m scratching my head and wondering why this is such a big deal. I surely am not a a bit upset about this and I have been here so long I predate all Support Staff, except one member being on Staff, as well as, predating all support docs.
The blah, blah , blah about paying customers is nonsense. The default themes are free themes. All announcements about new themes are made after the fact here http://en.blog.wordpress.com
