Protecting website

    I want to protect my pages, i tried it to (1) make them private and only show them for editors and admins and (2) I tried to protect it with a password.
    Both options do not work.
    In case of option 1: nothing is visible. So also editors and admins don’t see anything.
    In case of option 2: the password is not work. I don’t get a error, but it just does not reply to the password I set up.
    can you help me? thanks
