Problems with uploading images
-
The method of adding pics to a post is maddening to say the least.
In a recent post I added a gallery of four images. They were tiled 2×2 – looks great. I then later in the post decide to add another image separate from the gallery. It does this but adds the image to the gallery I already created. I end up with repeat images and I can’t find a work around.
Any suggestions?
Jason

@Hi Jason,
You can exclude images from being included in the Gallery by ID number. This has to be done in the HTML editor.

Granted the gallery feature needs more work. I find that using the gammagirl post is helpful and that’s why I gave you the link to it.

Nope – didn’t work. I must be typing the code wrong:
[gallery link="file" columns="2" exclude="Invert2,Inverted,Dnarr"]
Where Invert2, Inverted, and Dnarr are the files I want excluded because they appear again later in the post. Not even sure these are the correct attachment IDs…

Yeah, thats my problem. I don’t know what the attachment IDs (number) of the photos that I want to remove from gallery.

I found this in the gammagirl post:
Update March 2, 2010: It is now possible to exclude certain images from the Gallery by media ID. Presently this can only be done in the HTML Editor. See the bottom of the updated Support Doc. http://en.support.wordpress.com/images/gallery/
There does seems to be a bug, however, that if you have chosen Attachment Pages as the default link in your Gallery, the excluded image still shows up in the thumbnail navigation between Attachment Pages.

I’m pretty sure they do know about it as others have made them aware of the problems with the gallery and how it currently functions. Also as of late Staff have been monitoring forum threads closely and are answering far more questions than in the previous 4 years. Additionally, we now experiencing those who have “member” under their usernames posting answers but we note that they also have a silver colored background box behind their username indicating they are Staff. If you wish you can contact Staff directly using this link http://en.support.wordpress.com/contact/

To find image ID numbers: go to Media > Library, hover over image, see end of permalink that shows up in browser status/progress bar.
Alternative way to have an independent image in a gallery post: temporarily upload and insert the image in another post, copy its code from the html editor, paste into html editor of gallery post.
