Problem embedding Technorati code (I’ve read FAQ)

  • So I’ve read the FAQ about embedding the Technorati code into my blog, but when I do that, the search box and blog links that are supposed to show up do not. When I click the link that says Technorati (after I’ve embedded the code), the link does nothing and I stay at my blog. Is this an issue between WP and Technorati, or am I messing something up?

  • I don’t think the link is actually supposed to do anything for the reader, it’s just so that Technorati can find and register your blog. You can even delete the post.

If you go to Technorati.com and search for your blog, you’ll probably find it indexed now. That’s where the searches, etc are supposed to be, not on WordPress as far as I know.

  • It was so long ago but it confused me at first when I first joined Technorati. They said to either embed it in the title or in the body of the post. I did it wrong as usual. But I eventually figured it out.

  • No, you guys misunderstood me or I didn’t make myself clear. There’s the code you use to put into a Text Widget for the Technorati “ad” to show up. But every time I enter it into the widget, it only shows up as a link to nothing, not the search box and “blogs linking to this one” link and stuff.

  • I have one of those; you can’t use the dynamic ones, that show your ranking and other blogs linking to you. For security reasons, the workings of that button get stripped out. What you CAN use is something like on my blog, which is a static button to “Favorite this on Technorati”. It’s just an image plus a link in a text widget. If you look around Technorati’s buttons, you’ll see they have some that work in WordPress.

Also, of course always make sure that you have “http://” in front of your links. Otherwise, they do just loop around to your blog never-endingly.

    Hope this helps.

  • Oh, AND, if the code contains the word “embed” anywhere in it, it won’t work here, for security reasons. You probably know that already, but I thought I’d put it in anyway.

  • @frymaster
Here is the link to the technorati embed instructions Mark has provided in the FAQs blog http://faq.wordpress.com/2006/07/22/how-do-i-embed-technorati-code/

  • Fry, it might help us help you if you posted the code that you were trying to add in. There appears to be some confusion over what you’re trying to do.

  • This is the code I’m trying to put onto my blog:

    <script type=”text/javascript” src=”http://embed.technorati.com/embed/has2227rw.js”></script>

and it says “Note: This code must be in your blog’s template for the embed to display.”

Does a text widget work as the template or what?

  • read the link from timethief. it answers your question.

  • And so do several posts in this thread. No Javascript. No embeds.

  • <script type=”text/javascript” src=”http://embed.technorati.com/embed/has2227rw.js”></script>

    change to
    <a href=”http://technorati.com/claim/has2227rw”>Technorati</a>

  • timethief, I had changed it to that when I read the FAQ, but clicking on the Technorati link that showed up just brought me back to my blog. Maybe I’m misunderstanding the purpose of embedding Technorati into your blog?

  • You put the claim code in a post. You title it “Technorati Claim”. You think of it as bieng “spider food” and publish it. Time passes and the spiders find your blog and the code. You delete the post or you just ignore it. :)

  • Yeah, I put that code in a post right after I signed up for Technorati and it said once it had “found it”, I could delete the post so I did.

  • @frymaster
I’m wondering if you feel your issue has been dealt with and if you are prepared to mark the thread “resolved”. But if this isn’t the case then please post again and clarify any outstanding concerns you have about technorati claims. :)

  • Well, I was browsing some blogs and came across a blog which had a whole Technorati set up. It had a search blog thing, as well as a Technorati rank I believe. I wanted to get this on my blog, but it seems I cannot. That guy’s blog was his own domain, too, so that’s maybe why he could do it and I can’t.

  • I have a button on my blog so fellow bloggers can click it and make my blog one of their Technorati favourites. That’s how I know that one can be mounted with no problem.
I do not have a Technorati search button because I do not wish to provide readers with services that take them off my blog.

Did you find the technorati tools page?
    http://www.technorati.com/tools/
Whatever toys you find there in html (not javascript) you can use on your blog. This is not to mention of course that if you have a firefox 2 browser or safari you can drag the link to your Links Toolbar (aka “Bookmarks Bar” in Safari, “Bookmarks Toolbar” in Firefox, or “Favorites Bar” in IE/Mac). Note that there are instructions for other browsers on that same page too.

Did you keep the link to the blog you are speaking about? If so please post it and be specific as to in exactly which button you desire to have on you blog so we can give you definitive answers.

  • I didn’t save the link for that blog, but came across this one:
    http://blog.mericson.com/

Underneath his Simpson Quote and Links, there’s a box called Technorati. I want all the features that he has in that box on my blog.
