Polls other than luckypolls
-
Has anyone found anything other than LuckyPolls that works in a text widget?
I ask because the ads in luckypolls are inappropriate when I’m using it in the classroom.
“Sexy Rihanna Photos” and “Earn Online Money” are NOT the sort of thing I can have plastered all over my students’ screens when they examine the results of a poll!

I see your dilemma. Unfortunately, a recent thread indicates Lucky Polls is the only option. It’s here, if you’d like to read it:

i think you’re going to have trouble finding a free poll host that doesn’t attach ads to the polls, unfortunately.

I don’t mind ads in and of themselves. Learning to distinguish between legitimate content and adverts (or the wonderfully euphemistic “sponsored links”) is something important for my students to learn.
A class discussion of mucky pictures and pyramid schemes is not something I can face though!
I suppose I’ll settle for a link in the sidebar to some other poll site instead of having it nicely integrated.

Found another poll site, not sure if it’s better than luckypolls, but it does give it in html code, I think.

When reading the list in the blog post above do note that those 3rd party providers who state instructions for “wordpress” are almost always referring to wordpress.org blogs and not to wordpress.com blogs. Unless “wordpress.com” is clearly stated you will find that the widgets provided are in javascript. On wordpress.com blogs we cannot use polls that use javascript. We can only use those in html.
-
the list provided includes ONLY sites that provide with a url – no form or javascript involved here.
the list was done keeping wordpress.com in mind. since they all give a url, the blogger can link to them via a text widget and so is wordpress.com-compatible.

Thanks for verifying that you have tested them all in advance to be sure that they can and do work on wordpress.com blogs. :)

Sheesh – thanks for bringing my attention to the fact I didn’t have my email program running {blushing}.@sanjidabd
{waving} :) -
just letting you all know that the list provided earlier now includes links to sample polls. so you can see if you like the look of a poll before you make one.
also the recurring formatting issues in the list are taken care of. thanks for your patience!

@sanjidabd
I’ve now tested the following polls and surveys and verified that we can use them on wordpress.com blogs
misterpoll.com
nexodyne.com
OpinionPower
freeonlinesurveys.com
surveymonkey.com -
