Please Reinstate the Option of Choice to Use the Old Publishing Format

  • Don’t blame developers.
Developers just code what is requested, as a rule.

This should be brought to the attention of those deciding to implement these changes.

  • The Blue Death editor is slow, rude and throws stuff away – sometimes loosing hours and hours of work – – what more needs to be said – so the response to a brain damaged editor it to FORCE people to use the brain damage Blue Death editor – – not even to the “makes no sense” stage on this – – and t further more to blow the cookies away so I can’t even use the classic editor to edit an existing post without going back through the dashboard is the height of arrogance

  • @hopnut – that is true up to a point. I am a developer and I do fight implementations that I think do not benefit our users and listen to their feedback. I also, if I “lose” my battle, make sure that all complaints after something is implemented get into the right hands

  • Please give us a visible way to get to classic edit without having to jump through hoops.
I post my blog by email from my iPad and have never had any problems. Reclinerart.Wordpress.Com . I edit it on my iPad to add tags and categories that are already in the list. Takes two minutes. But today the new edit was my only option and getting the lists to show up was difficult and would reach a point where it would not scroll unless I got rid of the keyboard. Took a whole lot longer.
I know there is an app but the last time I looked it had poor reviews. Posting by email has, for several years, been easy, quick and smooth – UNTIL TODAY – when no choice was readily available. And it looks like management is ignoring everyone. Not even a “sorry”.

  • Got this from Staff Answers

    Hello there!

While the team of developers is at work making sure that button is available again, I wanted to give you the short cut to the Classic Editor….

  • @knashermac2009
OMG! /no words (civilized ones, that is)

  • Thought I’d ask Staff directly. It’s almost as if they are not looking at the rest of the forum. Fingers crossed.

  • I also hope that the link comes back to use the classic editor and cookies will store that info for previous posts to edit and new posts in the future. Cookies is not the best way to do it, but better than nothing (like now).

Thanks tpenguinltg, for the workaround coding for editing posts using the classic editor. It works perfectly and I recommend it for others wanting to use the classic editor to edit posts. See: https://en.forums.wordpress.com/topic/new-improved-edit-interface-is-still-deleting-numeric-tags?replies=21#post-2309882

I never used the “Beep, Beep, Boop, too-blue-to-use” editor for a number of reasons including that the adding of tags and categories is not easy. I use a bookmarked link to make a new post using the classic editor.

  • Oh, by the way, I found out about this today because I deleted the cookies on my browser, if I hadn’t I wouldn’t have known about this, so there are many bloggers still unaware that this has happened.

  • The removal of the classic editor is ridiculous. I re-edit posts all the time, to update and for other reasons. The beep bop boop is useless to me for reasons others have described well in this discussion.

I am aware I can get the classic edit back from the dashboard when I post a new post, but clicking the edit button on a post doesn’t get you anything but the new edit mode – which, again, is useless.

I have two premium blogs on WordPress and I’m liking the idea of moving to Tumblr – where major mainline media seem to do quite well. I encourage others to think about it too.

I cannot for the life of me see any reason at all for WordPress not to make the option of the classic edit mode easily available to any of us who want to use it. so many functions are lost in the new setup that it seems as if no one on the developer side thought about how it would impact the actual bloggers.

Sort of like bad IT people who speak a different language and don’t understand – or care – about the impact of the changes they make.

  • @cbiancardi

    :-O Apologies…

Yes. Indeed. That’s exactly what I meant!

  • I have loved being with WordPress. I moved from Blogger five years ago. Now, I am getting ready to move back. I still don’t like Blogger, but that’s nothing compared to how I feel about the new format for writing posts. If I can’t have Classic Mode, I don’t want to stay.

I find it ironic that the designers and whoever, consider the new mode desirable and, presumably, easier. I have news for you. Also, having the sidebar on my left is the straw that broke the camel’s back. It drives me nuts. I had to physically move the screen when writing today’s blog. Otherwise, it was driving me nuts.

You’ve been so wonderful all these years WordPress. What happened?

  • @Galois: Whoo hoo! It works. You knew that but I am sadly lacking with computer karma, so I waited until I saw before cheering. Thank you.

  • You’re welcome & best wishes to you, @mroby :)

  • Having the option to switch to the new or to remain with the classic version wordpress is best.
I wish to remain with the classic for now.

  • WP have said that they are working to bring the option back ….

  • The easiest way to continue to use the Classic editor would be to bookmark your wp-admin URL:

    http://example.wordpress.com/wp-admin

As we’ve continued to add to and improve the new editor, we are seeing very low usage of the link back to the Classic Editor. We certainly understand if you want to continue using that editor though. Just bookmark your wp-admin URL, and you should be good to go (no plans to disable that link)!

If you find yourself continuously switching back to the Classic Editor, we would love to hear what particular features you’re missing in the New Editor!

(I’m still sifting through the feedback already mentioned in this thread.)
