Please Reinstate the Option of Choice to Use the Old Publishing Format
-
oh yes it does. makes me feel better to get back at the assholes and you know what? they pay heed, just like you did!
-
@ dandelionsalad,
Thanks for reminding me about the user script redirect options. I’d added Greasemonkey a couple of days ago, but hadn’t gotten around to doing the script install. Works like a charm. -
<b>You are THE Happiness Engineer, so make us all happy!</b>
What’s wrong with meeting members halfway and reinstating the Classic editor toggle button?
Developers can continue to wreak havoc in private while members are liberated to work unimpeded by the chaos that is the inevitable byproduct of their experiments.
This is the only possible win-win scenario.
Do whatever you want with the new editor. But leave the Classic editor alone, don’t eliminate it and don’t attempt to manipulate and coerce members by making workarounds more punishingly complex each month.

musicdoc1, you are most welcome. Figured many of the new readers to this thread may have missed this important user script. All thanks go to tpenguinltg for making it for us.
It does work perfectly.

I so agree, the11thwave. The easiest solution is to put the link back for users/bloggers to be able to easily choose which editor they prefer to work with.
WP staff already stated that they will not do this.
It’s very, very disappointing, to say the least.
Staff are not interested in our comments unless we give them info as beta testers for the “new, not-improved” editor.

@Every member who commented
We need to be consistent in our demand.
If we continually give ground by providing links and long lists of ways to work around the removal of the Classic editor button, we are defeating the entire purpose of the topic, which was to reinstate it and cut the crap!
The only way for everyone to win is to –
1- Let WP do what they want with the new editor. It’s a non-issue.
2-Consistently demand the reinstatement of the Classic Editor toggle button.
3-Unanimously INSIST that the Classic editor NEVER be abandoned, or only accessible through elaborate workarounds.
Not reinstating the quick access button is not an option we are willing to discuss with the developers. We Insist is be reinstated. We demand it!

Add my name to the petition to reinstate instant access to the the classic editor and keep it available far into the future. No workarounds are acceptable. Direct access only. Non-negotiable.

Great ideas, the11thwave. We could have used this about a week ago when the button first disappeared.
-
@ the11thwave,
I commend your enthusiasm, but I don’t agree with the premise. Asking for the return of the link from the new editor to the classic is not enough. We shouldn’t be hijacked to the new editor at all. That is a graver concern. They (WP) evidently weren’t getting the percentage of users going to and using the new editor that they hoped for, so they devised a couple of new tricks to coerce the unwary into visiting, staying on, and getting used to the new editor. It’s indoctrination. Here’s the tricks:
1. Redirect links which formerly went to the classic editor to the new editor. Evidently they’ve been doing essentially the same thing for a few months at log in for some members, directing them to My Sites or the Reader instead of the classic dashboard, though I’ve yet to experience this.
2. Remove the link from the new editor to the classic editor. It’s a deliberate trap for the unwary, and an insulting annoyance for those who understand the game WP is playing.

I HATE IT HATE IT HATE IT
It is too small, I can’t see anything, everyone else has two things, one for the computer and one for an app, why the hell do you think you can do it all in one. It really annoys the hell out of me that you don’t take into consideration people working on very large screens and what crap you have given us is so small on it you need a magnifying glass to see it. I am so sick of this.

@jeremeylduvall-Thanks for confirming that the hijacked links will continue to point to the New Editor rather than allow users to decide where they wish to post or edit their posts.
As someone else already mentioned (knashermac, I believe) what is the harm in returning the link to the Classic Editor from the New Editor?
If good User eXperience is of any concern whatsoever to WPcom, then that is the absolute minimum WPcom should do.

As someone else already mentioned (knashermac, I believe) what is the harm in returning the link to the Classic Editor from the New Editor?
Indeed. Those who want to stay on the new editor will take no notice of the link and will continue to use the new editor, and those who want to continue using the classic editor will be very grateful for it. The staff shouldn’t care how we use and take advantage of the system as long as we stay on it and not move to another service.
The work put in to the new editor wouldn’t be wasted work because there are people who would rather use it over the classic editor (I personally know a few); however, the staff should also respect that there are people who would rather use the classic editor.
The infrastructure is (at least, was) already in place to implement the classic editor/new editor preference (namely the cookie method), so it shouldn’t be very difficult to make it easy to use either editor.
If a choice is given to the user, as it is with us now, it should be consistent throughout the experience. That means that links to edit posts and such should point to the user’s preferred editor.
The only other “reasonable” option is to not give us a choice at all, but if that lone choice is the new editor, you will have very many unhappy users, some even unhappy enough to leave the service. Considering that the classic editor is a part of core WordPress, it’s unreasonable not to present it as a proper choice, not a hard-to-get-to option like it is now. -
Also this forum is too hard to read, my head is positively swimming after reading only a few posts and i’m incredibly nauseous. Why do they make it so hard to use this site? I hate it as well and am literally, physically sick over this. It doesn’t help that every time i go to post i hit what appears to be the big post button only to find out that what i’ve clicked on is ‘go premium’ as the ‘submit’ button is quite difficult to find and the print is so hard to see i have to not only wear my glasses but use a magnifying glass :(
-
Those links are a pain in the arse when you’re editing many posts a day, and i have just discovered i can’t use greasemonkey as i can’t use firefox and need safari to run my browser.
-
@jazzylemon
You might want to try your luck with NinjaKit (like Greasemonkey for Safari). -
As someone else already mentioned (knashermac, I believe) what is the harm in returning the link to the Classic Editor from the New Editor?
Yes – it was me. I have a feeling that this new editor is the “baby” of someone very senior who is trying to stamp their authority rather than admit there is a problem. I do not believe for one moment that the Happiness Engineers, Staff and Developers think that what we are asking for is unreasonable, but it seems that they are under strict instructions.
We do have to keep on with this though….
-
I find this new editor very difficult to see. Please can WP re-instate the link back to the good old classic editor?
-
HEY WORDPRESS MANAGEMENT! Please add my name to the list of people disgusted with the new editor.
