It is SORELY NEEDED on WordPress.com as currently there is no way to add javascript elements to the sidebar.

We are not allowed to post Javascript is for security reasons. If you knew how Javascript operates and you knew that WordPress.COM is a multiuser blogging platform then you would not even ask this question because the answer will be no way – hands down!
https://en.support.wordpress.com/code/ -
You misunderstand what the plugin does. It allows me (or you) the administrator to add javascript, NOT ANYONE ELSE.
No users can add javascript.
Check out the link to the plugin, you’ll understand why this is sorely needed.

You can run Javascript on any WordPress.ORG install because the only security risk will be to your own site, unlike what the risk to many blogs would be if you could run it on a wordpress.COM site.
This guide will explain how to move your WordPress.com site to another hosting platform: Moving to a Self-Hosted WordPress Site
https://en.support.wordpress.com/moving-to-a-self-hosted-wordpress-site/We provide support only for wordpress.COM hosted sites and that one is not among them. Our support docs do not apply to (1) local installs of wordpress.ORG software on your own server or (2) wordpress.ORG software installs on paid hosting, and we do not provide support for them at wordpress.COM. You are posting to the wrong support forum.
WordPress.COM and WordPress.ORG are completely separate and have different username accounts, logins, features, run different versions of some themes with the same names, and have separate support documentation and separate support forums. Read the differences here http://en.support.wordpress.com/com-vs-org/
If you don’t have a username account at WordPress.ORG account, then click http://wordpress.org/support/ and register one on the top right-hand corner of the page that opens, https://wordpress.org/support/register.php so you can post to the support forums there.

WordPress.org support docs are at https://codex.wordpress.org/Main_Page

Again, thanks, but that answer is unrelated to this particular plugin. Anyone else out there who doesn’t mind actually reading the plugin page and what it does? Anyone?

I understand how the plugin works. Do you understand that unlike free-standing wordpress.ORG installs, this wordpress.COM site is a multiuser blogging platform hosting ten of thousands of sites that share a common architecture?
I typed modlook into the sidebar tags on this thread for a Staff response. How do I get a Moderator/Staff reply for my question? https://en.support.wordpress.com/getting-help-in-the-forums/#how-do-i-get-a-moderatorstaff-reply-for-my-question Please subscribe to this thread so you are notified when they respond and be patient while waiting. @tt
hosting ten of thousands of sites
probably closer to tens of millions of sites.
@sentrylogin1 – Regardless, what is it that you want to do with this plugin that currently isn’t supported here? https://en.support.wordpress.com/plugins/
Let’s look at the plugin you mentioned one by one:
What is the use of this plugin ?
You can use this plugin to insert anything in your sidebar. Some suggestions are,Advertisements javascript codes (eg: Google adsense, Buysellads, adbrite etc)
Here’s WordPressdotcom’s policy on advertising: https://en.support.wordpress.com/advertising/
https://en.support.wordpress.com/affiliate-links/Add Facebook Like Box, Google Friend Connect widget etc.
FB Like Box already available, GFC widget, no because of the javascript restriction already mentioned, etc.
https://en.support.wordpress.com/facebook-integration/#facebook-page-pluginFlash items (eg: Youtube videos, JW Players, Slideshows, flash games made by you etc)
No flash allowed here and it’s going bye-bye on the web in general in favor of HTML5, but YouTube embeds, yes, slideshows, yes, media embeds in general, yes.
https://en.support.wordpress.com/videos/youtube/
https://en.support.wordpress.com/gallery/
https://en.support.wordpress.com/category/media/Insert any shortcodes inside the widget.
Here are the available shortcodes for WordPressdotcom, most of which can be used in a text widget in your sidebar, some better in the body of a post or page.
https://en.support.wordpress.com/category/shortcodes/Link any files like CSS Stylesheets, Javascript files, libraries etc.
Not sure about this one, but here’s info on posting source code on WPdotcom
https://en.support.wordpress.com/code/posting-source-code/You can also link to your github profile, dropbox, box, drive, etc.
Social sharing buttons javascript codes (eg: AddThis, shareThis, addtoany, tell-a-friend etc)
Social sharing buttons here: https://en.support.wordpress.com/sharing/Write any announcements, some navigation links etc.
Text widget, Custom Menu widget, etc. https://en.support.wordpress.com/category/widgets-sidebars/And more according to your needs.
While the possibility of users being allowed to add javascript to their site, regardless of whether its only the site ADMIN or not, is very slim (more like nil), there are ways of doing things on WordPressdotcom that you may not yet be familiar with.
What exactly are your needs that you feel can only be met by using this plugin? Let us know what they are and we will try to help you, if we can.

@mike – Thanks. Yes. We are a “gated community” but there’s a reason for that. As tt said, this isn’t a standalone WordPress install here.
As we all know, one small oops, even when an update is pushed out by the Devs here, can affect most everyone (and usually happens while in the middle of writing a really, really long post). :p

@justjennifer
Great entry. It required a lot of time to type that and I appreciate you doing so. :) -
