I just read somewhere that wordpress.org offers a pinterest “pin it” plug in but not for the wordpress.com free version. Am I missing something or is this definitely not an option? Help!!

The blog I need help with is hungrydogkitchen.com.

We WordPress.COM hosted bloggers are unable to access metadata on WordPress.COM blogs and insert anything at all into the <header>. http://en.support.wordpress.com/code/ Our WordPress.com hosted blogs, unlike WordPress.ORG installs which are each free standing, share a common architecture. Hence, what you ask for can only be done on a WordPress.ORG install. Read the differences here please http://en.support.wordpress.com/com-vs-org/

    Added information:
The follow the Pinterest Site Verification instructions provided in the support docs which are all at http://support.wordpress.com
    Go to http://en.support.wordpress.com/webmaster-tools/#pinterest-site-verification

Note that The pin it button is JavaScript and cannot be used on WordPress.COM hosted blogs.

Go to Dashboard > Sharing please and use this guide http://en.support.wordpress.com/sharing/#customize-your-services to enable a sharing icon so it will display under each post.

The “Pin it” hover button has been added! It now gets auto-enabled if you have connected Pinterest in Settings > Sharing and selected the “Official buttons” option for button style setting.

    Hi, @scripttechnology
You are in the wrong forum.
This forum is for blogs/sites hosted by WordPress.com

WordPress.COM and WordPress.ORG are completely separate and different http://support.wordpress.com/com-vs-org/

And you should ask in the WordPress.org forum.
    http://wordpress.org/support/

scripttechnology, for help with a specific plugin, the first best place to ask for help is at the plugin support forum itself.

If this is the plugin you are using: https://wordpress.org/plugins/pinterest-verify/

Then this is the support forum I would recommend trying first: https://wordpress.org/support/plugin/pinterest-verify

Please keep in mind WordPress.org support is volunteer-based. You should include the error message and a list of exact steps about what happens when the verification fails if you can. Sometimes the issue is related to the service and not the plugin, so you should also make extra sure you are entering the correct credentials (even if you think you already have) as a troubleshooting step (since that can get overlooked sometimes). Other than that, another basic troubleshooting step you can try would be to completely log out of both services and clear your browser cache before trying again. If that doesn’t help, then post on the plugin author’s site to see if they are able to help on a volunteer basis and include as much detail as you can.

Cool! That’s going to make a lot of people very happy. :)

On the flip-side, the “Pin It” button will only appear on images when you’ve enabled the “official” Pinterest sharing button?

    Correct.

So helpful! I was wondering if anyone could tell me how to make images on Pinterest appear larger. The images pinned from my website are quite large but once they get pinned to pinterest (main page) they appear much smaller than other pinned images. Any insight would be awesome!

How do you change the ‘Description’ when you hit the ‘Pin It’ button below the post? It just shows a few lines of the blog post. I would like it to show what I put in the ‘alternative text’ box when I uploaded the photo.

So, am I understanding correctly? So, the PIN option is, now, showing on the images of any posts, to my readers (or followers) that I post on my WordPress.com blog; if I had completed the verification process on Pinterest? Or, do I have to do something else to get the PIN button, to show, on my wordpress images, that I post on my WordPress blog? I am so confused! My wordpress.com blog is BearyAmazing. Thank you, for responding, in advance.

@libbystamps, just click on the description BEFORE you pin (then, change your description, or add to it); or if you had pinned whatever, already, just click on the edit marker, to make any changes.

libbystamps, I’m referring to the edit marker, on your PIN, for changes to the description.

It appears to be working for me now.

To get the hover pins to show up, you must connect your blog to Pinterest in the Settings > Sharing section (there is a verification step to make this connection) and you must also be using the official buttons option.

There is also a separate way to verify your site with Pinterest but it is not related to the hover pin:

i Did this for my site entertainmentchest.com but it not working after that i put my code into the root file then my pinterest account get verified.

    #2256386

samuel19990, http://entertainmentchest.com/ appears to be using WordPress but it is not hosted here at WordPress.com.

See http://support.wordpress.com/com-vs-org/ to learn about the differences between WordPress.org and WordPress.com.

In your case, you will need to follow the instructions at https://help.pinterest.com/en/articles/verify-your-website because your site is a WordPress.org setup hosted elsewhere.

If you are certain you have followed the instructions carefully and you are still having trouble, you should try contacting Pinterest directly for help and make sure to include as much detail as possible about the problem such as which verification method you choseā€”if you chose the HTML file method, then you should include a direct link to the file to show it is working.
