Pin it button

  • I was just on my Pinterest Account and I think there is something wrong with the Pin It button on WordPress. I checked some things I recently pinned from my site and when I tried to click through to the recipe from Pinterest it went to my site’s home page instead of directly to the recipe I pinned. Any ideas on how to fix. I contacted Pinterest and it is not a Pinterest problem. Thanks.

  • Can you tell us which recipes you tried to pin?

  • Yes, it is happening with almost all the recipes from my blog. If you check the Farro, Corn and Tomato Salad on my board the beach house kitchen blog posts when you click on any of the the 3 pins you get forwarded to the home page of my blog and not the recipe for the corn salad. For some reason the pork carnitas one is fine but lots of my other pins are forwarding back to the home page. I am really hoping I can get this corrected. Thanks.

  • My current recipe on my blog, Chocolate Mousse in Chocolate Cups is doing the same thing on Pinterest…just forwarding to the blog home page not that specific post. Thanks for you help.

  • Hi, I just did some testing. If I Pin one of your recipes from your main blog page, such as the Mousse recipe, it comes up with the main page URL. If I click on the title of a recipe post and go to the single post page, it comes up with the actual URL of the recipe. It seems that Pinterest is grabbing and using the URL of the page you Pin from rather than the link to the recipe itself. Give that a try and see if that works for you.

  • On the Pinterest pages with the incorrect URLs, you can correct those by getting the URL for that particular single post page and then Editing the Pinterest post and replacing the URL.

  • Ok, but how can we correct it so each time the reader pins it it is done correctly from now on? They should be able to use the Pin It button and have it go directly to that post every time. Thanks for your help.

  • Mary Ann, let me chat with our developers and see if this is something we can change. I’ll get back to you as soon as I can.

  • Yes, thank you so much. I don’t understand why it sometimes works and sometimes doesn’t.

  • Mary Ann, are you saying that sometimes when you Pin an image from the main page, it has the post URL instead of the main blog URL?

  • Yes. I just pinned my last post and it goes to my home page. But when I check some other pins that I have done some go to my home pages and others go to the actual post instead of the home page. Thanks.

  • When the recipes end up with the correct URL, is it possible that you were pinning them from the single post page instead of the main blog page (your front page)?

I’ve tried a number of pins from the front page of my test site with Adelle activated and they all have the main blog page URL. I have yet to get a pin from the main page to reflect the individual post URL.

  • I have filed a ticket on this and we will see if this is something that the developers will change. If the front/blog page pin behavior is by design (links to the front/blog page) then it may not be changed.

  • Ok great! Thank you for your help.
