Thank you. I need advices to take any further steps. Thank you for your help.

  • Hello there,

Happy to help you with this.

Hi, the photo gallery tile used to be a column of 4, now it’s a column of 3, how can I change it? Thank you very much.

Can you provide a link to the page you’re working on please?

Also, how can I make the youtube video looks smaller in size?

As above, which page is streaming the YouTube video?

How can I let viewers to pause my slideshow on a specific image they are interested in?

It’s not possible to pause the slideshow, but it is possible to increase the transition length between photos, or perhaps deactivating auto play auto together, may be of interest.

    I hope this helps.

  • Column and youtube page – https://littlemauiisland.wordpress.com/photo-theme-testing/

It used to be possible, the pause button is a 50% transparent while button on top right. On this page – https://littlemauiisland.wordpress.com/home/ the first picture of the slideshow, you can find the pause button on top right. Tho it seems not consistent sometimes.

    Thank you

  • Column and youtube page – https://littlemauiisland.wordpress.com/photo-theme-testing/

On this page it appears that it uses a regular Gallery block. You can change the Gallery block to use four columns in the block settings (located in the right-hand panel), as mentioned here:
    https://wordpress.com/support/wordpress-editor/blocks/gallery-block/#columns

It should always be in the top right; but since it is a white button, it is invisible on the white background of other images which do not fill up the entire space. For example you can see it highlighted in this screenshot; however due to the image being centered and small, the button is harder to find:

  • https://littlemauiisland.wordpress.com/photo-theme-testing/ it seems theres no.pause button for this newly added slideshow…why?

    thanks for ur reply.

  • Again, it’s there; it’s just white on a white background.

You can confirm this by changing the size of your browser window to see it appear on smaller screen sizes:

    I hope that clarifies things!

  • For the slideshow pause button, on the PUBLIC VIEW, it lie out of the photo hence, it blended with the white background and is unseen. How can we solve this? Thank you.

  • thank you for all the help.

Another question, when I check my web on mac retina screen no.mattet 24inch or mac book pro, my web content become very narrow. I know it’s about the screen resolution. how can I make my web content wide on mac screen?

  • Hi there,

For the slideshow pause button, on the PUBLIC VIEW […] How can we solve this?

On thing I noticed is that your slideshows use a mix of different image sizes. For example you have some large horizontal (landscape) images, and some skinny vertical (portrait) images. The issue here is that the gallery is sized automatically to be as big as your widest images, and the narrower images are presented within that space, but with background showing on the left/right.

But as you can see in this video, the location of the pause button (which is determined by your widest image) is the same and does not change. It’s only hard to see on the narrow images.

    Video at this link

If you were to edit the images (on your computer, before you upload them to WordPress) to be all the same size instead of a mix of sizes, the slideshow will look more professional and there pause button will have image behind it, instead of background white.

Another option is to change the color of the pause button, but that is not possible on free sites. For that you will need to use custom CSS code to “override” the built in styles, which is possible under our Premium plan (or higher.)

when I check my web on mac retina screen no.mattet 24inch or mac book pro, my web content become very narrow. I know it’s about the screen resolution. how can I make my web content wide on mac screen?

I noticed on https://littlemauiisland.wordpress.com/photo-theme-testing/ specifically, the image size setting in the slide show is not as big as it could be. I see the images are set to “large” but this is actually smaller than the content area itself. If you change this setting on your slideshow block, the images will be wider and will stay behind the pause button.

    Hope this helps!

  • Hello, thank you for the help.
1.) I have tried and updated the slideshow photo size to “full size”. On this page https://littlemauiisland.wordpress.com/photo-theme-testing/ where i’m doing testing, the pause button is unseen….

Also I have removed horizonal photos on the home page, and set the photos into “full size” here, the pause button is unseen too https://littlemauiisland.wordpress.com/

It seems the pause screen is unseen depending on the screen/ which computer is used.

Another question – when I check my web on mac retina screen no.mattet 24inch or mac book pro, my web content become very narrow. I know it’s about the screen resolution. how can I make my web content wide on mac screen? – I screen capture and put up a file name on below to explain – I want my web content looks on M2Mac and 24 inch Mac as wide as it is shown on Surface…

  • Referring to my another second question – it seems if a web looks this narrow on mac, even on a macbook pro which is a small screen, not even a wide screen, it implies the web looks outdated. I dont want my web which has not been finished, already look not up to date v soon.

I can update a photo with resolution fit for mac book pro and 24 inch mac. After I upload, I will check by eyes. I dont need the photo look further enlarged than this. just that it looks good on this 2 macs are ok – i think its an alternative way to future (current) proof my site. T-T

Just to note, we do have a bug report open regarding the pause icon itself – it’s possible that the visibility of the button can be related to the visibility of the pause symbol which is usually shown there. This is being worked on!

However, to some extent it can help also to have your images ‘cover’ the complete width of the slideshow.

This is related to the Sketch theme, which has a fixed width for the content column of 764 pixels, it’s noted at the bottom of the theme information here:
    https://wordpress.com/theme/sketch/littlemauiisland.wordpress.com

This can technically be overridden with CSS too, as mentioned by staff-totoro further up! Another alternative could be to use a theme which is compatible with the new Site Editor, which allows you more freedom to choose your layout and the maximum width of the page. We do have some information about that here:

  • Thank you.
    1. a theme which is compatible with the new Site Editor – does it mean Full Site Editor Theme?
    2. Full Site Editor Theme can be free and can be paid?

  • //The Site Editor is in beta, meaning it is a brand new feature and evolving every day!// – https://wordpress.com/support/site-editor/

    1. Beta means it’s a paid function?

    Thank you

    1. I see many new theme available, if I click “activate this design” to see how my current materials/ design fit into the new full site editor theme, without making any further changes, is it possible for me to return back to the current “sketch theme” by activating the sketch theme design without any distortion? I mean, i wanna click try other themes, but I’m afraid I cannot go back……
  • 1. a theme which is compatible with the new Site Editor – does it mean Full Site Editor Theme?

Correct! This is about the full site editor themes that can be found here: https://wordpress.com/themes/filter/full-site-editing/

    2. Full Site Editor Theme can be free and can be paid?

Yes, there are both free and premium (paid) FSE themes that you can choose from. You can take a look at the premium themes here:

    https://wordpress.com/themes/premium/filter/full-site-editing/

    1. Beta means it’s a paid function?

No, it basically means that it is still in a testing phase by users and hasn’t been officially launched yet.

I see many new theme available, if I click “activate this design” to see how my current materials/ design fit into the new full site editor theme, without making any further changes, is it possible for me to return back to the current “sketch theme” by activating the sketch theme design without any distortion? This may be the best option for newer themes, and almost all FSE themes. You can revert to the Sketch theme and retain it 35 without disruptions. For older themes, you can avoid this and click the three dots at the bottom right of the theme, clicking live demo, and at the top right, there should be a Try & Customize button. This allows you to preview the theme without actually changing the theme.

Hope this helps. Let us know if you have any other questions.

  • Thank you for your replies.
    1. If I want to remain my current theme style – blue bubble background then a white one column framing the content, it seems it’s hard to find a matched Full Site Editor theme for that? 2. Is it easy to build this style on my own?

  • It should be possible to recreate this style with the Full Site Editor. If you’re not sure, you can create a free test page, and work on it, instead of your current site.

There’s a theme called Blank Canvas that’s basically empty, and allows you to do everything from scratch: https://wordpress.com/theme/blank-canvas-3/.
