Payment taken by wordpress via paypal for dead site.

  • A payment was taken from my bank account via paypal for a site that isn’t even active. I got no email through to say the payment was going to be taken. The difficulty is the site is completely dead and not even showing on my wordpress profile as one of my sites. What can I do to get refund? There seems to be no way to contact WordPress which is annoying.

    What is the URL of the site that has the upgrade that you received a charge for? It must be under a different account than the one you are contacting us from because there is no active upgrade under your account. If you know the login credentials of the other account, please log in and post in this thread to confirm ownership. Then, I’ll be happy to assist you with the cancellation and the refund.

  • The domain, janelouisewrites.com, does not exist, and has never been registered with us.

    The domain, janelouisewrite.com, however, is registered with us, and did recently renew, but it belongs to a completely different account than the one you’re using to post here, which is why you don’t see it listed under your sites. Email notifications for the renewal would have been sent to the email address on file for the account that owns those upgrades not the email you’re using for the janeybowyer account.

    We can only cancel a domain if the exact account that owns it requests it. Refunds we can process if you’re just able to provide verification that you paid for the renewal, but that involves sharing info that we can’t get from you here in the public forum.

    The best way to proceed here is to go through our account recovery process. Please submit the form at https://wordpress.com/wp-login.php?action=recovery

    You can use the transaction ID for this payment that you’ll find on your PayPal statement as verification.

    Someone will then follow up with you at the email address you specify to help you regain access to the account, and they’ll also be able to assist you with the refund and cancelling the upgrades once we’ve verified you’re the account owner.

    If the account recovery form won’t accept your transaction ID, please instead submit the contact form at https://en.support.wordpress.com/contact/?whywasi=charged

    That will go directly to our billing support team who can manually verify your transaction ID instead.

  • Thanks kindly I will try that. The email linked to the old website is dead too so hence why I had to log the query via another site and why I didn’t receive a notification about payment . I will try these suggestions.

  • Ps on Monday I did contact wordpress via :https://en.support.wordpress.com/contact/?whywasi=charged but didn’t get a reply. I have sent another email today. How long do they take to respond?

    If you have a bank statement or access to a PayPal account showing the charge for the recent payment on the account, you have a transaction ID that you can use on the account recovery form as proof of ownership:

  • Hi, I can’t access any wordpress for janelouisewrite.com but I have been billed for it. I have tried it under both my email addresses. I can only imagine it is a dead email address. I am worried that WordPress were able to take money out of my paypal but yet no seems to be able to find the acccount I was billed for.

    I will log this with my bank and see if they can help.

  • We have explained to you multiple times in this thread how you can regain access to the account.

    Look in your PayPal account statement for the transaction ID, and submit that via our account recovery form. That is the only way we’re going to give you access to that account.

    Else submit our billing support contact form so our billing support team can verify your payment details and issue a refund without giving you access to the account.
