Pages/Tabs on Twenty Eleven

  • Hi,

I’m new to blogging and am having real difficulty creating a second ‘page’ or ‘tab’ on my blog with the Twenty Eleven theme.

Ideally what I would like to do is have a tab next to the ‘home’ tab that will link/map directly to my website store (http://www.earthwindandstyle.com/apps/webstore), so when the tab is clicked it opens up directly in my website. I have no idea how to go about this, so any help is hugely appreciated.

if the above isn’t possible I would alternatively like to create a page with some pictures of my products that link directly to my website’s shop. I don’t seem able to do that either. I’ve inserted URL’s in each picture, but they just opens up into a bigger photo when it’s clicked on.

    Thanks for your help.

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

  • On the images, when you insert them, put the URL into the “link URL” field in the insert media window before inserting the image.

  • A thousand thank yous!!!!!! My linked page works beautifully!

My only remaining question now is how do I show visitors they are on the blog page? I’m not sure how to word this correctly; If you go to my website (www.earthwindandstyle.com) and click on blog you will be redirected to my wordpress blog. I’ve now added linked tabs back to all of my website pages (yay!), but is there a way for me to show that they are currently sitting on the blog page when they arrive? I hope that makes sense…

Stranely my link URL field doesn’t work properly with the pictures…. not an emergency now since I have beautiful linked pages, but will likely need to be able to do this in future. Any suggestions?

    Thanks again for the help.

  • I probably should have mentioned that I deleted my original ‘home’ page… Not sure how to get it back and rename it ‘blog’, if that’s what I should do.

  • Do you want the main landing page to be the normal blog post page? If so, go back to settings > reading and set your front page to be your “posts” page instead of having the static front page.

I’ve never had any issues putting URLs other than the image URLs in the “link URL” field. It has always worked just fine as long as the images are inserted as single images instead of a gallery. A gallery image cannot be linked to anything really.

  • Actually the main page IS the blog page I just noticed. What you might want to do is to use the “read more” tag in your posts and then set the main page to show more posts. Right now it is only showing a single post (settings > reading).

  • Wow, you’re fast!

Yes, I would like the main landing page to be the blog, but it doesn’t say blog – it isn’t labelled. I suppose it doesn’t actually matter because they can redirect with the tabs from the website.

I’ve only written one post so far (I’m very green!), so that would be why more aren’t showing, but will remember to use the ‘read more’ tag. Thank you.

Since you are so helpful, would you be able to tell me how I can set it so that the first two or three comments appear under each post? Right now you have to click on the link to view them.

  • No, the “blog” (posts) page will not have a title saying “blog.”

Comments will only appear on the single-post page (after you click a comment link or the title of the post. There is no way to change that.

  • Ok. Thank you for all of your help!
