old/new editor

    This morning I realized that finally the Gods at WP seem to have disabled the old editor completely and only allow the new one to be used from now on. Why is it that the developers over there at WP always need to replace a perfectly good feature with a worse one? Instead of being user-friendly they seem to be intent on frustrating their users.
    When will the old editor, at least as an alternative to choose, be available again?

    The blog I need help with is: pitsfritztownnews.wordpress.com

    I’m in agreement on this. The new editor messes up the formatting when I go back in to update a post – correct a spelling or add something. I then have to go through the trouble of reformatting every time I want to update a post. (I’m talking line spacing and paragraphs in particular) That just isn’t right. I want to use the old editor because it didn’t have that issue.

    Nope, you still have the classic/old, see here:
    https://en.forums.wordpress.com/topic/please-reinstate-the-option-of-choice-to-use-the-old-publishing-format/page/3?replies=153#post-2311085

    And the main thread about this is that:
    https://en.forums.wordpress.com/topic/please-reinstate-the-option-of-choice-to-use-the-old-publishing-format/page/15?replies=445#post-2321419 (15 pages of complains)

    Galois,
    You still don’t get it, do you? With 15 pages of complaints you still believe the new editor is THE thing?! With all due respect, sir, you’re just unwilling to admit WP created something useless. And both your links don’t help me at all. To use your word, NOPE, the old editor isn’t available to me. If I follow your links, I either end up reading pages over pages of complaints, but never a single word about how to solve it, or I end up with a screenshot [https://cloudup.com/cfMJ02ama_r] in a language I don’t speak. And contrary to what you write, there’s nothing at all re the old editor.
    If you really intend to help, just come up with a plains and simple and easy way to get to the old editor. Just for once, please listen to your customers.

    @wpvins, you’re the one who has not understood anything. I hate the new edit and never use it. I was just trying to help:
    a) showing you how to use the classic editor
    b) giving you a link to the main thread so that you can write your complaint

    I’m volunteer and do not work for WordPress.com

    The classic editor has not been disabled, it’s just harder to get to now. The good thing is that they have no intention of removing the classic editor, but they’re not going to bring back the preference setting.
    I’ve listed the two main workarounds here:
    https://en.forums.wordpress.com/topic/please-reinstate-the-option-of-choice-to-use-the-old-publishing-format/page/15?replies=153#post-2321347

    With all the indifference of WP towards their users’ wishes, do you really believe they’ll keep the classic editor??

    Staff has said that they will not be removing the classic editor:

    I noticed several of you are worried that we’re planning to remove the Classic Editor. Please know that is not the plan.

    Also, as I have stated a couple of times in that thread, the classic editor is a part of core WordPress; I highly doubt they’ll be removing it. Case in point: the core stats page is still available even after two newer versions.

    I’ll believe that when I see it – meaning that in say 5 years’ time the classic editor will still be available.

    Count me in with the frustrated that WP is going to the new editor as the default setting.

    I did click on the link that galois posted above (https://en.forums.wordpress.com/topic/please-reinstate-the-option-of-choice-to-use-the-old-publishing-format/page/3?replies=153#post-2311085) and found the following, posted by ‘surlybond’ to be the simplest/surest way to get to the old editor, both for editing old posts and for creating new ones:

    Now I get it!
    If I want to make a post, or edit one, I MUST NOT:
    Click the little pencil and plus sign at the top of the page;
    Click My Site/Publish/Blog Posts/Add;
    Click “Edit” on a post.
    If I do any of those things, most of the features I need for editing are not available.
    Such utter incompetence at WordPress.com is hard to comprehend.

    What I have to do is;
    Hover over “My Site” at the top left
    Select “WP Admin”
    In the black column on the left, select “Posts”
    Select “Add new” or
    Select “All posts”, select the post concerned and select “Edit”.

    And will this method remain available?

    Count me as a petitioner to reinstate the editor that was useful

    Thanks, surlybond!

    You cannot deactivate the new Beep Beep Boop editor but you do not have to use it. For locating the ways and means of accessing the legacy or classic pages for creating posts, editing posts, and viewing stats see here > Navigating the Classic WordPress.COM interface http://onecoolsitebloggingtips.com/2015/04/05/navigating-the-classic-wordpress-com-interface/

    @ timethief – Great post – I’ll be trying those options, as well, thanks!

    Love the giraffe pics, btw =o). I have a friend who’s buggy for giraffes; I’ll have to send her to your post for a fix, ha!

    Although timethief does have this link in her post, it’s not very prominent, and in my opinion, there are more complete workarounds than the one she describes, so for completeness, here’s the link to a list of all the practical workarounds:
    http://git.io/wpcom-restore-classic-ed

    I personally use the script that I wrote (first method in the above link). It lets you click even the Edit / New Post links and it will take you back to the classic editor.
