no rtl/ltr button when writing post

  • Hi, I’ve tried adding a post that combines hebrew and english text so I need a way to change the rtl during the post. I saw in some tutorials that there is a button in the toolbar for this but it’s missing for me. I tried goran theme and twenty sixteen as well
    thank you

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

  • Probably the best solution which will allow you write both languages in the same post is found in this earlier forum post: https://en.forums.wordpress.com/topic/bilingual-posts-hebrew-english?replies=1

Let us know how that goes.

  • thank you for your quick reply. Your solution worked.
I also wanted to have a button for it in the toolbar. After research, I found a plugin for this:
    https://wordpress.org/plugins/wp-rtl/installation/
however, I’ve read that if you use a free wordpress.com hosting, plugins will not be able to be installed.
Do you of a workaround for this if I want to try an create a site and see it without buying a domain and host (it will probably come later on, but first I want to try without)
    Thank you
    Guy

  • There’s no way to add such a button here. You are correct that we cannot add 3rd party plugins on WordPressdotcom, but that’s regardless of whether you are using a entirely free site or upgrade to a paid Plan.

In order to use that plugin you would need you set up a standalone WP install on 3rd party hosting. Here’s more on that: https://en.support.wordpress.com/com-vs-org/

Having said that, I don’t know the frequency or ratio of your RTL to LTR text in a single post, but you can also write one post LTR and a separate post RTL and then use tags to display them separately. Let me know if that is relevant.

  • by “standalone WP install on 3rd party hosting” you mean using wordpress.org right? When I created a site using wordpress around 8 years ago I did it with a stanalond install, now I see that there’s another way with wordpress.com, I’ll try with wordpress.com first to see how it will fit for me and my site.
One more thing, I saw that when the interface language is hebrew ,the posts are automatically rtl, but since I like my interface to be in english, it would be nice to have this option in the settings, so my interface will still be in english but all my posts will be in rtl without needing to add tag every time, and for places like adding urls I can define them to be ltr.
    Thanks

  • Yes, I mean WordPress.org.

If it helps, you can have your site in Hebrew, but your interface in English.
Go here https://wordpress.com/settings/general/wordpress27205.wordpress.com and under the Language setting you can set Hebrew as the site language, but in your profile setting, you can set your interface to English. There’s a link to it under the Language setting.

This is probably best only if most of your site content is in Hebrew (including your chosen theme) with occasional English content.

    You’re welcome.
