New Smilies?
-
smile costs nothing but gives much.
It enriches those who receive without making poorer those who give.
It takes but a moment, but the memory of it sometimes lasts forever.
None is so rich or mighty that he cannot get along without it and none is so poor that he cannot be made rich by it.
Yet a smile cannot be bought, begged, borrowed, or stolen, for it is something that is of no value to anyone until it is given away.
Some people are too tired to give you a smile.
Give them one of yours, as none needs a smile so much as he who has no more to give.razz…..

This is being discussed and some new code is expected. So it’s going to happen but I genuinely do not have a time for when it will arrive. In the meantime, if you see an GPL smiley set you really like you can send the url to Support. But they MUST be GPL. No other license or terms can be used. No promises that a certain set will be used but the more we have to choose from the better.

One clarification to Mark’s comment. The smiley sets must be GPL v2 compatible, so that includes public domain, BSD-modified licensing, etc.

If I understand correctly:
For now we are stuck with those hideous smileys, while the WP-guys are looking for a new ‘GPL v2’ -set.Who said again: If it ain’t broken, don’t fix it?

I also don’t like the new smilies! Please, give us back the old ones! Or, at least, let us choose – new or old. Thank you.

It’s the little things that make WordPress better than … others, in my opinion. And smilies was one of the little things I was always happy about. If we voted, I’d vote for NO CHANGE. Bloggers who don’t want smilies can turn them off. Those of us who like them don’t want cheap, washed out versions. I think the winking smilie looks like he has a black eye. It’s become a punch-in-the-face smilie. LOL (See, sometimes the emoticon can help readers know when you’re kidding so they don’t take offense).

Sorry I can’t help, izaakmak, but since this seemed like the general New Smilies Hate Thread I had to say: yeah, giving me a choice would have been decent. Now, if I turn the smilies off in my blog, how am I going to know when the new-new emoticons are in place so I can enable smilies again? There probably isn’t going to be an announcement, since these horrid deformed-looking ones were a surprise as well.
(That being said, that’s pretty much my only complaint about WP in three years.) -

I’d like to think that I can work with the new ones, If they’d update the cheat sheet so I know what I’m doing! I’ve considered making my own, but what if the new list is longer than the old one?

Well in what feels like hours of time wasted and what also makes me look like a persistant nerd, I found the wordpress plugin that shows the updated smilies, obviously we can’t use plugins here but it does at least show the screenshot, they’re using the tango smilies

I’m wading in to say that my dislike of the new smilies is so intense that I shut them off.
