New Flickr Widget Problems

  • Ok, I copied the RSS link in the appropriate box, chose to display 3 photos, and clicked “save changes,” but all I get is a white box with a link that says “more photos.” When I click on the link, it reloads my blog page.

  • Check the feed url, and that it starts:
    h t t p : / / flickr.com/services/feeds/
with the rest of your info after the last /

    See what that does?

(had to edit the link to make the letters show. Remove all spaces in that line :)

  • I checked it, that’s the way the url is listed. It’s still not working.

  • It’s fixed now :)

  • I’m having the same problem, I have a box that says “more Photos” and when I click on it, it sends me to my photos, but I can’t get them to show on my blog.

  • I see two photos on your blog and when I click More I got to Flickr and see the same.

  • They are there now, thank-you for checking

  • I’m having the same problem, it worked initially.. but now i get a more photos link… the url begins as you state above.. help greatly appreciated!

  • I too am having the same problem.

  • I am also having that problem. I’ve copied “link location” and pasted in. I have 7 photos uploaded to my account, created a set with them etc., but I always get that dumb white box!

The FAQ and support forums on Flickr are horrible, and I think there should have been more information/testing available on WordPress.

  • chrysti & taraden: I’ve checked your blogs & the flickr images appear to be showing up correctly in your sidebars.

pr1ncecharming: I can’t see the flickr widget in your sidebar, are you sure you’ve added it. If you still need help can you put it back and we can see what’s going wrong.

For information on what you can put in your flickr feed url, see this page here on flickr.

WP folks: Maybe this could be added to the info, or alternatively the widget be updated to simply ask for a persons flickr id instead of a full URL. The above URL gives the request format and this could save a lot of questions from people who don’t know what a feed is but want to use their photos.

  • Thanks mutube for the response. I actually took the flickr widget off my sidebar to preserve the aesthetic qualities of my blog haha. But I can tarnish its beauty for the sake of utility.

  • Public Photos

To get a feed of public photos, use the following url:

    http://www.flickr.com/services/feeds/photos_public.gne

This feed has the following optional url parameters:

    id
A single NSID. This specifies a user to fetch photos for.
    ids
A comma delimited list of NSIDs. This specifies a list of users to fetch photos for.
    tags
A comma delimited list of tags to filter the feed by. Photos containing ANY of the tags will be included in the feed.
    format
The format of the feed. See below for feed formats.

That is the information about what I can put into my flickr feed. It actually isn’t helpful, since I have no knowledge about HTML let alone what it is; the same goes with “feeds.” I also don’t know how to use the information they give…where do you specify such parameters…in the url?

  • I love the layout and design of WordPress. I am 2 days old in this site. I’ve put up 7 postings. Tried to get photos inserted but couldn’t. I have some blogs in blogger.com where I am able to put up my photos. I have flickr in the sidebar, but that’s not enough. I want to put up some of my own photos with comments, etc. Can you help?

  • Ok pr1ncecharming, here’s an explanation:

    http://www.flickr.com/services/feeds/photos_public.gne

This is the the URL you use for all public-post feeds, so start with this. Remember the h t t p : / / w w w . on the beginning.

Put a ? mark at the end if you want to add options i.e. http://www.flickr.com/services/feeds/photos_public.gne?

This feed has the following optional url parameters:

This is where you configure what you’re getting

id: A single NSID. This specifies a user to fetch photos for.

ids: A comma delimited list of NSIDs. This specifies a list of users to fetch photos for.

Here you can specify a single id or a list of ids to fetch the photos from (for example, you can include ids of your friends in list for a “my friends photos” panel).

    For example:
    http://www.flickr.com/services/feeds/photos_public.gne?id=pr1ncecharming
    http://www.flickr.com/services/feeds/photos_public.gne?ids=pr1ncecharming,mutube

(Replace the pr1ncecharming with your flickr ID obviously)

    tags:
A comma delimited list of tags to filter the feed by. Photos containing ANY of the tags will be included in the feed.

Here you add the tags to restrict the photos you’re displaying if you want to. For example you could choose all your images with kittens & puppies in by doing:

    http://www.flickr.com/services/feeds/photos_public.gne?id=pr1ncecharming&tags=kittens,puppies

Notice the ‘&’ symbol which goes between the various options.

format:The format of the feed. See below for feed formats.

The format is also rss2. For example:

    http://www.flickr.com/services/feeds/photos_public.gne?id=pr1ncecharming&tags=kittens,puppies&format=rss2

    Some more examples:

    All your photos:
    http://www.flickr.com/services/feeds/photos_public.gne?id=pr1ncecharming&format=rss2

Everyone’s (all flickr users) beach photos:
    http://www.flickr.com/services/feeds/photos_public.gne?&tags=beach&format=rss2

    Hope that helps.

  • Please note that there probably should be a http:// in front of each of those links above there. bbPress strips it out for some annoying reason. :)

  • as irishmama said : “I’m having the same problem, I have a box that says “More Photos” and when I click on it, it sends me to my photos, but I can’t get them to show on my blog.”

I have fixed the RSS feed URL but this is still happening. I noticed something weird, though, on the Dashboard/Presentation/Widget sidebar page (sorry – is there a short term for it?).

Each time I returned to it to check or change the RSS feed URL, the option box link (box w blue bar at top and text inside, on widget command button) wasn’t showing in the widget button. If I click to grab the button and drag it over the left-hand column, the option box link reappears. I can then click on it and enter information into that cool embedded (?) option box.

There is no “save changes” button on the option box, and I’ve tried hitting the X to close it, and hitting Enter when inside the URL text area – doesn’t seem to make a difference, “More Photos” is all that shows up.

Right, this is getting long. Any ideas?

  • Correction : “More photos” links back to the blog page, not to Flickr photos at all.

  • I also have problem with Flikr widget. I just add the Flickr without any rss feed. With this, it should show the interesting pictures from Flickr. It was working fine until yesterday or today. No pictures show any more.

    my url is http://thaibaht.wordpress.com
Please noted, this is a Thai language site.

    Any ideas?

  • I could have sworn that without any RSS feed in there, it would just come up blank. That’s what it did in the past.
