    Hi –
    I’m trying to update my wordpress.com blog, joannanasar.com. The theme I am using is Neutra. I have the CSS/font upgrade to allow for customization. I am able to change style and colors of font.

    But I can’t figure out how to change the colors of the line. Currently they are blue, green and peach.
    Also, I’d like to change the color of the squares next to the blogroll as well.

    Any ideas about how to go about changing these colors would be greatly appreciated!

    Thanks,
    J.

    The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

    I have flagged this thread so it will be moved to the CSS Forum for you. There you can get Staff support or support form a Volunteer who helps with CSS. When you alter a theme’s stylesheet, you only need to put in the Editor the modification/additions to the CSS, not the entire thing. Read this for more info:
    http://csswiz.wordpress.com/2009/10/15/if-you-have-the-wp-com-css-upgrade/
    The theme you use may have already been edited by someone else who changed the same bit you want to change. You can use this link to search and find out if that’s so or not. https://en.forums.wordpress.com/tags/neutra

    Thanks – I’ll look for an answer over there. To clarify: my question is in regards to changing the color of the neutra theme line and blocks.

    If this is something that needs to be done in CSS than I guess I just need to know the coding for that line to make these changes. If not any directions on how to go about making these changes in the wordpress.com dashboard would help.

    Best,
    J.

    This whole thread will be moved for you to the CSS forum. I do not help with CSS editing. Only one Volunteer does these days. However, when you purchase a custom design upgrade you also purchasing Staff support. What’s required is patience while you wait. Note that all CSS editing here is theme specific. There is no spot we can point to and say use this code. You need human help.

    @TT (“when you purchase a custom design upgrade you also purchasing Staff support”): Purportedly!

    @dotalpine: Those things you want to change are actually images, so you need to download the theme from here:
    http://wordpress.org/extend/themes/neutra
    Then modify the images in an image editing application, upload them to your blog via Media > Add New, get their URLs and replace the original ones with yours.

    CSS support can be found both here in the forums (which is pretty excellent) and by using the http://en.support.wordpress.com/contact/ page.

    @dotalpine, in the Neutra theme, this line of CSS controls the blue green and peach design element:

    #left h2.title {
    background: url(images/bg_post_border.png) bottom left no-repeat;
    }

    Here is a direct link to that image border design element image: http://s1.wp.com/wp-content/themes/pub/neutra/images/bg_post_border.png

    Because Neutra added those colors using an image, to replace it with CSS, you would first need to create an alternate image and upload it to your blog media library. Once uploaded, get the image URL from the file you uploaded (the image URL can be found by clicking on the image name in the Media section). Once you have the image URL enter it into the code example below and add it to your custom CSS:

    #left h2.title {
    background: url(MY_IMAGE_URL) bottom left no-repeat;
    }

    Make sure you replace MY_IMAGE_URL with a complete link starting with http://

    Same type of thing applies to to the little color blocks next to the blogroll titles. Those are made with images in the Neutra design. Here is the CSS:

    #right h2 {
    background: url(images/bg_right_title.png) no-repeat center right;
    }

    Here’s the image block: http://s1.wp.com/wp-content/themes/pub/neutra/images/bg_right_title.png

    Here’s the code you would add to your custom CSS to replace it:

    #right h2 {
    background: url(MY_IMAGE_URL) no-repeat center right;
    }

    Just in case anyone else is trying to change this and as clueless as me here is the code for the line image:

    images/bg_post_border.png

    just replace this with your new image url and you are good to go. Thanks for all the help everyone!

    @TT & DS: I was talking about the forum, of course. I’m quite aware of the passage quoted above – to which I should add this (from http://en.blog.wordpress.com/2011/06/15/new-upgrade-custom-design/ ):

    Along with the CSS Editor updates we’re making the WordPress.com CSS forum officially supported by the WP.com Happiness team. Bring your CSS customization questions to the forum and you can get expert help.

    Can you give me a rough estimate of the percentage of CSS forum questions answered by staff since those announcements where made?

    The forums are a community effort. It includes staff and volunteers. Regardless of who is answering or how often or what percentage, the end goal is helping people with their WordPress.com blogs. The community is really excellent at CSS, particularly thesacredpath recently! We should focus on that kind of excellence and positivity.

    #666093

    @designsimply, thanks for the compliment.

    #666095

    @DS: I totally agree with your last comment. But it simply confirms my initial remark, as most CSS questions here are answered by thesacredpath (formerly also devblog and hallluke), not by staff. If you like to “focus on that kind of excellence and positivity”, you could have remembered those three volunteers in time, instead of insulting them by suddenly claiming that users can now get expert help in the CSS forum because it became officially supported by staff (“suddenly” quite coincidentally being when the price of the upgrade got doubled).

    The intention was not to “suddenly” claim that you could now get excellent support in the CSS forum but in fact to highlight that you could already get excellent support there and that we we’re now dedicating some support staff time to helping provide this excellent support. The price of the upgrade increased along with an increase in functionality as well as an increase in support.

    Hihi, you’re starting to sound like a theologian trying to explain away the problems in the scriptures! :) No doubt the intention was that – the execution, however, was a bit disappointing…
