Need to know how to link a co.uk
-
I have a wordpress blog in the making but bought a .co.uk with 1and1.co.uk I am having trouble figuring out how to get my website to end in the .co.uk address but be my wordpress blog. Looking on one and one where it says dns settings it asks for these details:
IP address (A Record):
1&1 IP address
Other IP address
CNAME records are supported only for subdomains. To use your domain with a third party application, set a CNAME record for a subdomain of your domain.
IPv6 Address:
Enable IPv6I have no idea how to sync my co.uk address to wordpress, no good with technical things like this lol. I have already mapped the co.uk address to wordpress but still not directing to the blog. I have contacted wordpress and 1and1 and both say different things lol

Here’s how to purchase an upgrade and domain map to a URL you already own.
All wordpress.com blogs are on .wordpress.com subdomains.
WordPress.com does not accept domain transfers but mapping an existing domain is possible.Domain forwarding is not supported and as wordpress.COM hosted sites do not have permanent IP addresses it will fail.
Domain mapping is not done free of charge. The charge is $13 per year for mapping an existing domain that you already own.
re: mapping an existing domain
Important Notes Before Upgrading
https://en.support.wordpress.com/domains/#important-notes-before-upgradingIf you have registered a .wordpress.com blog you log in as Admin under the exact same username account that registered the WordPress.COM blog URL, and as you own a domain URL already, you can see here for mapping an existing domain. http://en.support.wordpress.com/domains/map-existing-domain/
Domain mapping of an existing domain URL that you already own and purchased elsewhere is not done free of charge. You will have to renew the domain name purchase where you made it, and also renew the domain mapping purchase here, each and every year.
NOTE: Mapping an existing domain costs $13. annually and a domain name purchase and domain mapping are included in the Premium upgrade bundle.
In order to map to a domain one must have an underlying .wordpress.com subdomain blog to map from and it does not matter what that underlying .wordpress.com URL is. It does not have to match the domain URL. If you do not register a .wordpress.com blog URL first then the software supplies the dot whatever URL so you can proceed with your domain mapping purchase.
See https://en.support.wordpress.com/my-upgrades/
Your billing history will be at Dashboard > Store > Billing History
https://en.support.wordpress.com/billing-history/Your only options for payment are found here http://en.support.wordpress.com/payment/
It can take between 24 – 72 hours for domain name propagation to take place throughout the internet. You can view the DNS changes here > http://www.whatsmydns.net/ What’s important during that stage is to be patient.
WordPress.com does not provide an email service for blogs on their subdomains or on custom domains. Please see these support docs:

Thank you for your reply. Already done all that and have mapped my co.uk address as well and it’s set as my primary address. When I type in my .co.uk address it doesn’t go to my wordpress blog like I expected, it just goes to to the .co.uk address saying currently offline

Please be patient while waiting for Staff help and make sure you have provided all actual URLs involved so they don’t have to waste your time by asking for them.

mummyinwaitingblog.wordpress.com is my wordpress site but since adding mapping to mummyinwaiting.co.uk it has disappeared and this now shows http://s625111620.initial-website.co.uk/offline/

It looks like your domain is not pointing to WordPress.com name servers yet:
http://en.support.wordpress.com/domain-helper/?host=mummyinwaiting.co.uk
Please go to your domain registrar’s site and log into the control panel. You will need to update the name servers as below:
NS1.WORDPRESS.COM
NS2.WORDPRESS.COM
NS3.WORDPRESS.COM
For more information, please visit the help documentation provided by the registrar and our support page:
http://en.support.wordpress.com/domain-mapping/map-existing-domain/
Let me know if you have any questions!

Thanks rootjosh, I tried doing that but nowhere for me to type the servers details into that I can see. When I click change DNS settings on the 1and1 control panel all I get is
Name Server Settings
Please note:
If you want to use this domain with a 1&1 product, you need to use the 1&1 default settings.
Name servers:
1&1 name servers
Other name servers
Name server 1:Additional name servers:
1&1 name serversAnd when I click the question mark over name servers this comes up
Name servers translate your domain name into the corresponding IP address. You can use the 1&1 name servers or set your own name servers.
So as you can see not sure what I am doing lol. There is nowhere that I can see for me to put the above NS wordpress addresses as been trying to find that for a few days. I contacted 1and1 via email asking them to update with the above information and they directed me to the control panel but still none the wiser on how to do it lol
-
Ok so now if I type in http://www.mummyinwaiting.co.uk it transfers me to my blog page as wanted but the address still shows as my blog page not http://www.mummyinwaiting.co.uk

Hi @mummyinwaitingblog, you’re almost there. Now that the custom domain works, you can make it primary here:
https://wordpress.com/domains/Let us know if you need more help!
-
Thanks supernovia, the second I make it primary it I get this:
The page isn’t redirecting properly
Firefox has detected that the server is redirecting the request for this address in a way that will never complete.
This problem can sometimes be caused by disabling or refusing to accept cookies.
I get the same in Chrome to. Only works when wordpress is my primary
-
Oh! I didn’t check and thought you’d taken Josh’s advice to change the nameservers.
If you’re just redirecting / forwarding the domain, you will have this issue.
Are you going to continue using other services with your domain through 1and1 ? If not, please go ahead and choose “set your own nameservers” and use these:
NS1.WORDPRESS.COM ,
NS2.WORDPRESS.COM , and
NS3.WORDPRESS.COMAfter you’ve saved those changes, wait a few hours for them to take full effect. Then once the domain properly points to our servers (without just forwarding) you can update the primary domain.
