Mapping a domain name I own to WordPress

• I want to move a domain name from GoDaddy to WordPress.
I have let it expire in GoDaddy.
If I type the domain name in my browser´s URL box, I get a screen saying GoDaddy will sell it to me, so I don´t think anyone owns the name at the moment.
If I use the domain tool in wordpress, it says that the domain name is unavailable.
I am hesitant to enter the domain name in this public forum because I fear someone will register it, and then try to sell it to me.

• Domain expiration is a pretty long process. It is likely that GoDaddy still owns the domain.

Domain Expiration

• Rootjosh,

Thanks for your response, and the link to the domain-expiration, which was interesting reading.

What do you suggest I do? Is there a way for me to know about the auction and bid on the name?

• Contact GoDaddy, they would rather sell it back to you immediately than have to go through the process of auction. Negotiate, but ignore all upsells. Just repurchase the domain without any email or hosting add-ons, but push for a cheaper price or do some research on FatWallet for a cheap domain price (often for like $1.99-$2.95). After they return the address, go over to the WordPress store, use the transfer purchase, and follow these instructions to map the DNS servers to wordpress.com (http://en.support.wordpress.com/domains/map-existing-domain/).

• And next time don’t let your domain expire. You have to re-purchase before it expires. ;)

• Contacting GoDaddy is probably your only option if you want to be SURE that you get the domain back. Otherwise, you can wait out the expiration process and see if it becomes available again in a month or two.
