Logging in to view a protected blog
-
I have had a blog on my rss feed for the past year or so. Recently, when I go to the blog through wordpress or the feed, the message “This blog is protected. To view it you must log in.” appears. I have a wordpress account and am typing in my username and password correctly. However, when I click Log In, the screen immediately clears out my log in info. Can someone help me figure out what is going on?
Thank you!

You did not specify a blog address or reason for posting when you created this topic.
This support forum is for WordPress.com hosted blogs only. If you have a self-hosted WordPress blog you need to seek help at the WordPress.org forums, not here.
If you don’t understand the difference, you may find this information helpful.

The problem is that the blog is set to private which means that the blog owner has to designate you as a “user” before you are allowed to view the blog.
If you have contact information for the blog owner, you can contact them and ask if they will set you up as a user. If you do not have contact information then I’m afraid you are out of luck.

Thanks for this! I wish I had the contact information, it was a great blog, esp. since I’m thinking about med school!

If the blog is set to “private” then you will have to contact the blog owner. He/she will have to make you a “user” for you to view the blog.

Problem! I set up my account on WordPress and can log in just fine. However when I go on Hot Air they say I must login to comment. When I hit that button it takes me to the WordPress login page. I enter the username and password and it denies me! What am I doing wrong?

What if your “protected” blog writer passed away and you’ve just learned of his death? I know there are no fresh entries but I would like to read what he would have had to say over the years. SOL is definately cold comfort!!

The fact that someone has died doesn’t give you the right to supercede their privacy settings.
