The catch here is that you’re eligible for live chat support if you HAVE a plan, not before. Otherwise you ask your questions here to the volunteers and staff.

Aah, ok. Can I just pay to map my free site to my existing domain? or must I subscribe to a paid plan? and if I start with the basic paid plan ($2.99mo) can I then adjust styles and content at anytime? and have access to help, I’m new at this.

You need a paid plan to map a domain. The Personal plan is $35.88 per year paid in advance. That would give you access to live chat support too.
