‘links’ is missing in the left side menu in dashboard

  • Hello WordPress,
I’m trying to edit links (blogroll) but when I go to my Dashboard there is no ‘links’ tab on the left-hand side of my Dashboard. Have you moved it? I looked everywhere and couldn’t find it.

  • Hi!

Are you trying to adjust the links that are displayed on the “blogs I follow” area of your site?

    https://wordpress.com/support/widgets/blogs-i-follow-widget/

If so, that widget might not be the best option for you as it only shows the sites you have most recently followed. If you would like to display links to other sites, you might consider either a blogroll:

    https://wordpress.com/support/blogroll/

    Or using the links widget:

Take a look and let us know if anything is unclear or you have any further questions.

  • Hi RootJosh-

What I am trying to do is to manage links. I added a “links widget “ to my blog. I wanted to add my own links. When I added the links widget there were about a dozen “ WordPress” links that automatically posted. I know that in order to manage the links you must navigate to the blog wp-admin page ( the dashboard). On the dashboard page is a list – on the left side- I can’t remember the order but it lists down : Home, media, appearance, posts, pages… etc. you click on the one you want to manage. LINKS used to be there- I think it was right under “MEDIA”- if you clicked on links you could add and remove links, you could add link categories…
LINKS isn’t there anymore. I can’t manage the links because link management has been removed. So the widget to add “links” to your blog is useless because you can’t manage the links. At least I do not see anyway to do that. I did enable the advanced function in my account settings but that dust do anything. I hope I’ve explained this clearly- thanks for your help.

  • Hi there – Thanks so much for that explanation! I’d like to see if we can manually get you to the Links area in your admin for now. Try loading up this URL: https://simplemonastic.wordpress.com/wp-admin/link-manager.php

Does that get you into Links, and will that work for your intended goal for now?

  • Hello- thank you so much. I tried the link above and it was helpful. I was able to use it. I appreciate your hard work 🙂

  • @jpnspn,

I wanted to add my own links. When I added the links widget there were about a dozen “ WordPress” links that automatically posted.

Hi. For mysterious reasons, WordPress.com decided some years ago to hide the Links menu. It can be unhidden, that is displayed as you’ve described, by adding a single link, as long as that brings the total to at least four links in the menu. After you’ve added at least one link, the total number of links must remain at four or greater in order to cause the Links menu to appear in the admin menu. Otherwise, it’ll remain hidden.

See my recent topic on this issue, here: Links menu missing from WP-Admin menu on most of my sites. It was through testing that I discovered both how to restore the Links menu by adding a single item, and that there must be at least four links in the menu for it to display in the admin menu.
