Issue with DNS Configuration Causing Website to Revert to Old WordPress Site

    Hi everyone,

I’m experiencing an issue with my WordPress website where it unexpectedly reverts to an old version of the site whenever I update the DNS records for my domain.

    Background:

    • My domain is folic.ca, and it’s currently connected to my new WordPress site.
    • I’m trying to set up an email account (mail.folic.ca) on the same server where my website is hosted.
    • I added an A record for mail.folic.ca pointing to my server’s IP address (67.212.79.130).
    • However, after adding this A record, my main website (folic.ca) reverts to the old WordPress site that was previously associated with this domain.

    What I’ve Tried:

    1. Verified DNS Records:
      • Ensured that the A record for folic.ca points to the correct IP (67.212.79.130).
      • Ensured that the A record for mail.folic.ca also points to the same IP.
    2. Verified SSL:
      • SSL is active and configured correctly, but it doesn’t seem to be the root of the problem.

    The Issue:

    • The moment I add or modify the A record for mail.folic.ca, my main domain (folic.ca) starts pointing to the old WordPress site.
    • Removing the A record for mail.folic.ca resolves the issue, and my website displays the correct version again.

    Request:

I’m looking for guidance on how to configure my DNS settings so that:

    • My email (mail.folic.ca) is correctly set up and accessible.
    • My website (folic.ca) points to the current WordPress site and not the old one.

Any advice on what might be causing this conflict or how to resolve it would be greatly appreciated!

    Thank you!

    Hi @brigidangelo13,

Ensured that the A record for folic.ca points to the correct IP (67.212.79.130).

The issue is that you’re adding an A record pointing to 67.212.79.130 IP address along with the A record for mail.folic.ca for the same IP address.

You only need to add the A record for mail.folic.ca pointing to 67.212.79.130 IP address. When you add the A record for the root domain (folic.ca), you’re basically telling your domain to load the old site. So just add the mail.folic.ca A record and your email should be setup on your WordPress.com site and your domain will continue to show your current website with WordPress.com.

Also, check with your email provider if any MX or TXT DNS records need to be added since that’s usually needed to set up an email. Here’s a guide explaining the same: https://wordpress.com/support/add-email/add-other-email/

I hope this helps. Please let us know if you have any questions or need anything else.
