Include blog title in subject line of email notification of new posts?

  • Hello,
    Is there a way to include my blog title in the subject line of email notification about new posts? Presently, the reader sees (for example):

    [New post] Richmond POTTs and Fireworks in the Shuttle

    One reader commented that she had no idea these were from my blog.

    I realize that they should use a feed burner, but most of our readers seem to be relying on email instead. I’m not sure we can get them to change.

    I’d like the subject line to say: [Frontline Moms new post] and then the title of the post.

    Thanks for your help.

    The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

  • Hi. From personal experience, the blog’s name does not appear on the subject line but on the from line.

    The blog’s name comes from whatever you enter on Settings > General > Site Title, which right now is blank. So, the easiest solution is to fill the Site Title box. That will also help other people find your blog, because search engines cannot read what you wrote on that header image and think your blog has no name.

  • Thank you so much for your help. I added the blog title and also the tagline to the Settings as you suggested.

    But now these are repeated above the header. Is there a way to keep them listed, so that our emails will be identifiable, but not show them above the header?

    Thanks again.

  • hello.

    I believe frontline mama’s post was not concerned with the changing of her blog title.

    I was just going to ask the same question:

    # Is it possible to change the text in square brackets within the subject area?

    I have got a blog title, which is displayed as the sender of the subscription mails, but what bothers me is the [new post] and I was unable to change it to something less generic.

    if this option is not available, as it seems to me, I would say it should be included. I wouldn’t imagine it to be a lot of work, although I am anything but an expert on this subject matter.

    hope anybody can help.

    Let’s start with this so you have an information base. Search engine spiders cannot “read” any text in any image – period – only people can read it.

    If search spiders do not find your blog title and optional tagline here > Settings > General the blog will not be indexed and will not appear in the search engine page results.

    Yes, you can remove the “display” of the Blog Title and Tagline but still leave the information here >Settings > General. To do that requires your purchasing an annually renewable CSS upgrade in order to edit the CSS and suppress or remove the display of the Blog Title and Tagline. http://en.support.wordpress.com/custom-css/

  • Ok, we now purchased the CSS upgrade so that we could “suppress” the header title and tagline. Found the code to suppress the blog title and it works:

    #header h1 {
    display:none;
    }

    However, what is the code I need to suppress the tagline? Can’t seem to find in the searches, please help.

  • Hello there,
    I have flagged this thread so our Moderators move it to the CSS Forum. There are only 2 Volunteers who help with CSS so you will have to be patient while waiting for them to get to you. Here’s a link to a helpful post > http://csswiz.wordpress.com/2009/10/15/if-you-have-the-wp-com-css-upgrade/

    Best wishes with your editing. :)

  • This will hide the tagline.

    #site-description {
        display: none;
    }
  • Thank you so much, you guys are awesome!! It worked!

  • Yay! Happy blogging. :)
