I just lost my widgets display and most of my themes – poof! Why?

  • For some reason, my wordpress blog site just stopped displaying the widgets, my gravatar, archives, links, etc. My theme has also switched to something else.

Not sure what happended. Any ideas?

    Thanks

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

  • I lost several of my widgets too — not all of them — on one of my blogs (but not on the other). I still have the same theme, but it looks different. Help!

  • You guys using the Cutline theme? It switched to a new theme – Coraline – and I and experiencing a world of formatting and display issues.

  • Yes, using Cutline. How can it suddenly switch like that?! And what can we do about it?

  • Nothing, apparently. I’ve sent emails to support (I got one from them last week, but was away). I’ve posted to a forum, read through a forum on this issue … still nothing. I have noticed that the entire support staff are away on retreat – great timing!

Probable reason: a recent quarrel between WP and Chris Pearson, the original designer of Cutline and Pressrow.

  • Looks like we have no choice. I’ve looked at other threads in the posts and have made the changes from Cutline to the new Coraline theme. Took some time, and still need to work on some stuff, but it looks half decent now at least. Not happy about the surprise switch, though, for sure.

  • Yeah, the surprise switch is completely unprofessional. This will take hours for me to fix. Just noticed that EVERYTHING I created (text, buttons, widgets, etc. etc.) is GONE. So upsetting that it’s irretrievable. ARG.

  • I HATE THIS NEW THEME !!! It got rid of all the formatting I had done, which took MONTHS of work. I may be switching to some other platform if my settings do not return to normal. What’s the point? I can’t be re-doing all my settings every time there is a change in settings. WTF??!!!

  • Another unhappy camper here.

I also don’t like the fact that I now have a little statement underneath the blog’s name, and could not find out a way to remove it.

For someone who is HTML=challenged like me, it’s not going to be easy to retrieve everything I had in the blog and is now gone.

I realize that I don’t need to pay a penny for having my site hosted, and of course it’s a major bonus, but wow – talk about a shock!

  • This is BS. Same thing for me. My Cutline is removed and I have some second rate format. And of course support is “working on ideas to make WordPress better.”

How about not charging me for video upgrades and then bump hours of work just before I publish an interview I have been working on for weeks, making me look like an idiot to those whoe read my blog. How about restoring my work to show some loyalty? How about a heads up?

This gets fixed or I move on. I will begin to blog elsewhere with the inntent of ruining WordPress. I know I will not be alone.

Get this fixed. That is if you are truly “checking in on the forums”

  • Allright guys, apparently it’s not so bad. I just went to my “Widgets” section. All the dissapeared widgets are stored under “inactive widgets”. I just had to drag them to the sidebar once again, but it took almost no effort. Euupphh!! I thought I lost everything. Hope this helps.

  • Hi, everybody. Sorry for any confusion the phasing out of Cutline for Coraline might have caused. We have more info about the switch here and here.

Your blog’s custom header, menus, and widgets should have transferred over seamlessly in the transition. If any widgets were deactivated they should be in your Inactive Widgets pane at Appearance > Widgets. Any custom text or settings should still be there.

We’re happy to help with any formatting issues you’re experiencing.

@sallybr A blank tagline in Settings → General will remove the description below your title. You can also now hide all the header text from Appearance → Header.

  • And how do we know you’re not suddenly going to make public any number of things that belong on the dashboard only? I’ve had to hurriedly remove what I didn’t want in the public eye. And I’ve got three more blogs that haven’t had the rug pulled from under their feet, yet. I can’t sit here all night trying to limit the damage.

  • Not happy about this either … http://nobaddays.wordpress.com/2010/08/09/thank-you-wordpress/

I know I’ll get used to it and I like the look and options available with Coraline. I just wish I’d had more of a heads up!

  • @bookwitch The change from Cutline to Coraline didn’t make anything public that wasn’t before. Which items did you have to remove?

  • So not happy about having to spend time getting rid of widgets I never selected, then, one by one drag the widgets I used to have back to where they belong. And I agree there should have been some warning. I’ve usually been really happy with WP, but this seems like kind of major oops.

  • Why has my blog theme changed to Coraline from Cutline. My blog looks completely different, does not appear to have a WordPress login, I have lost much of my formatting and information which I had spent much time on. Including advisory notices on content for legal reaosns, plus key background information.

    This is totally unacceptable,

Plus this theme is not one I wish to have forced upon me, as it seems to have some severe limitations compared to Cutline.

I am singualrly unimpressed by this.
