I accidentally cancelled my domain today. Can I reinstate it?

  • Hi, I made a terrible mistake today and cancelled my domain from wordpress.com. I want to use my domain on Blue Host, but I did not realize that I needed to transfer it, not cancel it. Is there anyway I can reinstate it? I did this today. Please, please, please help!! The domain I’m trying to recover is janinamisiewicz.com.

    Thank you,
    Janina

  • Hi, I’d like to add that I somehow still have access to this domain. I bought it through Blue Host before I cancelled it on WordPress, and it wasn’t working on Blue Host, which is why I cancelled it from WordPress. Then, it really didn’t work on Blue Host, but I was still able to map it back to WordPress. This is very confusing, but I really, really need help. Thank you. I can try and clarify any of this.

  • Ok, the domain no longer works anywhere now. It’s lost in cyberspace! Please tell me there’s a way to get it back.

    Thank you,
    Janina

  • Hi Janina!

I’m in the process of contacting the registrar to get the domain returned to your account. Since the domain mapping upgrade will not work without the corresponding registration, I’ve refunded your recent $13 purchase. I’ll let you know as soon as I hear back about the domain!

  • Jeremey, you are my savior. Thank you so much!!

  • Hi!

The domain should be active on your account again. You’ll just need to set it as the primary domain on your account here:

I just created a manual payment request for the cost of the domain. You should have received the request in your inbox. Let me know once you make the payment!

  • Hi!! You are amazing, really, this is such a relief. I made the payment and I set the domain as my primary domain. Thank you!

  • Wonderful! Glad we were able to get this up and running.

  • Although, it still doesn’t work. Will it take a little while to set up, so to speak?

  • The domain is working correctly on my side now. Can you try clearing your browser’s cache?

  • It’s still not working, but I think it’s because I’m using a public web server. If it’s working for you then I’m sure I just need to wait it out. I do have one more question, though. If I would like to change my registrar to Blue Host then do I need to wait 60 days or would I be able to do this now because I’ve had the domain for less then 5 days?

I bought the domain through wordpress.com, but then I realized I needed wordpress.org, which is why I made the mistake of deleting it from wordpress.com. I need to transfer my registrar to Blue Host if I want to use my domain through wordpress.org and I’m just hoping there’s a chance I can do it before 60 days have gone by.

I suspect that’s the case as well. However, if you don’t experience success within the next 24 hours, please ping me here!

You’ll need to wait 60 days to actually transfer the domain. However, in the meantime, you can use the domain with Bluehost by changing the name servers as described here:

    Change a Domain’s Name Servers

Once you have the domain setup at Bluehost, you should be able to change the name servers to the following:

    NS1.BLUEHOST.COM
    NS2.BLUEHOST.COM
  • Alright, everything is up and running! Again, thank you so much for your help—it was unsettling to think I’d lost my domain, but I’m happy to have it back.

  • Not a problem! Glad we were able to get this working.
