http 500 error caused by line of code in php file – cannot access wp-admin

  • After editing a php file I ran into an http 500 error and can no longer login to wp-admin (where I did the edit)

    I know exactly what is causing the problem – it is from a line of code I added to a specific php file but I’m not sure how to access this file and delete that line of code??

    I do not currently have access to the cpanel credentials for the site but if I did, would I be able to edit the file of concern from here?

    To use cPanel (or FTP if I cannot use cPanel for this?) what exactly would the credentials be? – I’m asking because the wordpress in question is not mine, I’m new to wordpress, and I’m not sure if the owner even knows what cpanel is

    Any solutions to this are much appreciated!

  • What is the URL starting with http:// of the exact site you are referring to?

  • Note that there is no FTP access to sites hosted by WordPress.COM and there is no cpanels on such sites. https://en.support.wordpress.com/ftp-access/

    WordPress.COM and WordPress.ORG are completely separate and have different username accounts, logins, features, run different versions of some themes with the same names, and have separate support documentation and separate support forums. Read the differences here http://en.support.wordpress.com/com-vs-org/

  • resolved – didn’t realize the difference between wordpress.com and wordpress.org but was able to login to cPanel and fix the code from there

  • Okay then then and best wishes with your site.

  • Hi Tarquin,

    On checking I could see that the domain is now not resolving to any IP address.
    Please check the DNS of the domain and make sure that the domain points to the IP address 154.0.165.26.

    Further I could see that the plugins are still causing the issue.
    I could see the following error from the logs:

    ==
    [11-Oct-2017 15:35:51 UTC] PHP Fatal error: Class ‘Edr_Manager’ not found in /home/leaddershipco/public_html/wp-content/plugins/educator-certificates_bak/includes/edr-crt-main.php on line 97
    ==

    I tried renaming the plugin folder and could see that the domain is loading fine.
    However I have now reverted the changes.

    I would recommend you to contact your developer and check the plugins in your domain.

    This will solve the issue.

    Plugin causing problem.
