How To Use Editor

  • I wanna switch my theme and customize my site but i find the new editor very confusing to use

Also my homepage is showing my blog posts I want a static page. I had a static page before but now I can’t get it back

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

  • also no disrespect but what takes so long to respond cuz everytime I post in the forums I never get a response

  • Hi @koolbeanz247 Before posting to the forums, it’s always a good idea to search the support site and forums first. That is the quickest way to find solutions. If you do end up posting to the community forums, give as much info as you can in your initial forum post and then be patient. If someone sees your post and thinks they know the answer to your question, they might reply. https://wordpress.com/support/help-support-options/getting-help-in-the-forums/ also https://wordpress.com/forums/topic/best-practices-community-standards/

If you switched themes, your static homepage may have reverted to a draft. If you see it in Drafts, you can publish the page again and set it as your site’s homepage under Settings>Reading. https://wordpress.com/support/pages/front-page/

In addition to the helpful forum thread that @staartmees mentioned, here are a couple of resources that deal specifically with the site editor

The Raw Basics of Site Design

  • ok but how do I get to drafts

  • nevermind i read it but thank you

  • are the old themes still available or will they be retired for the newer themes. Will I be able to switch back to the old themes cuz I honestly can’t with the new themes editor I find it very confusing to use. Yes I’ve read the articles on how to use it but it’s still hard

the old themes editor was alot easier for me but I don’t wanna switch back and then the old themes get retired and then have to be forced to use the new themes editor

  • are the old themes still available or will they be retired for the newer themes

By “old themes” do you mean the Classic Themes or Hybrid Themes? If you do, those themes are currently available in your dashboard at Appearance>Themes https://wordpress.com/themes/all/free/filter/classic-theme/ and https://wordpress.com/themes/all/free/filter/hybrid-themes/

Will they be retired? We volunteers don’t have any foreknowledge of when and if WordPress.com will decide to retire a theme.

but I don’t wanna switch back and then the old themes get retired and then have to be forced to use the new themes editor

The policy has been up until now that if your theme is retired, you can continue to use it on the site where you’ve activated it. https://wordpress.com/support/themes/retired-themes/ When you use a retired theme, if you activate a new theme, even to test it, you won’t be able to switch back to the retired theme.

I also wanted to suggest that you create a new test site solely for practicing with the Site Editor, if you haven’t. WordPress.com put a lot of effort into creating educational resources for getting to grips with the Site Editor. Perhaps these tutorials will also help

    https://wordpress.com/learn/courses/getting-started/site-editor/

    https://wordpress.com/support/site-editor/ and lastly

    https://wordpress.com/support/wordpress-editor/

  • yes by old themes I mean the classic editor? What’s the hybrid theme never knew about it I’ve always used the classic editor. ONly wanna switch back to the old theme cuz the classic editor is a lot easier to use than the new themes editor. But like you said I dont wanna run into that problem of switching back to the old theme then it gets retired then if I wanna use new theme even just to test it I cant switch back to the old theme that will suck

IM thinking if I should just stick to the newer themes then so I don’t have that problem but I wanna do what works for me

how can I create a test site to practice with the new themes editor

  • I think I’ve decided to stick with the new themes editor. I’m reading the articles step by step and trying to follow the instructions on how use it and trying to get a better understanding of it

But I have a few questions to ask

I was reading other blogs and came across one that uses my same theme. But my theme doesn’t look like there’s. I love how there display looks. How do I get my theme like there’s

As far as preventing spam i did take precautions by enabling some features in my settings such as manually approving comments etc. But even tho i know no method is fullproof but what are some other ways I can prevent spam on my site. I do know that the Akismet spam protection feature is enabled on my site which has already blocked spam. is that a free feature? And for the spam filtering privacy settings it says do not display notice what notice are they talking about

For third party sharing of my site in settings it says prevent third party sites content from being shared with our licensed network of content and research partners do they mean wordpress.com

And lastly does wordpress.com automatically backup your site? Can I backup my site to a flashdrive external hardrive etc

I provided screenshots below of what I’m talking about

  • You’ve asked multiple things here, but I’m only able to reply about the theme as I am mostly still away from my keyboard until next weekend.

It would help if you provided a link to the site you like that is using your same theme https://wordpress.com/theme/jaida

I’ll try to look in when I can.

  • But I wanna make sure my questions get answered. Is it possible my questions can be directed to staff

  • You can add the modlook tag to your forum thread for staff assistance. Add it in the forum thread Tags section in the sidebar.

Meanwhile, in my experience when asking for help in the community forums, you’re much more likely to get that help when you stick to one topic. You started here with a question about getting help with the Site Editor and then added a lot of other questions unrelated to the Site Editor. (And you might find answers to some of those by searching our support site like I mentioned above.)

I was reading other blogs and came across one that uses my same theme. But my theme doesn’t look like there’s. I love how there display looks. How do I get my theme like there’s

So back to the Site Editor for a moment, if you want us to take a look at the site you like, please share the address of that site.
