    …you can change the URL you leave when you comment on other blogs to your standalone blog. If that’s all you want to do it’s pretty easy, and you never have to leave a link to your wp.com monkey blog again.

    My thanks to you both.

    I suspect that option not being available at the point of commenting is what caused not only my own issue, but several of the problems for those above — especially as typing in a different website address in the WP.COM comment box doesn’t seem to override that setting.

    But I’m going to shut up now — I am more than glad I can return to my WP.COM site at some point, the setting is there — somewhere — and I can comment elsewhere as needed.
