How can I set my website to only show the excerpt of the post?

I don’t’ want my entire home page to be filled with full-length blog posts.
I’m using Toujours theme and I just can’t seem to figure out how to do that!

The blog I need help with is lifeasarye.wordpress.com.

    Hi there,
When you click on customize and your side menu opens up, look for ‘content options’.
When that opens, you should see this at the top:
    Content Options
    Blog Display
Choose between a full post or an excerpt for the blog and archive pages.
    Full post
    Post excerpt
Just click on the post excerpt and you should be all set!
    I hope this helps!

    Hi tophatt29,

    Thank you for the reply!

Unfortunately, I don’t see “content options”, I only have featured content and theme options.
I’m not sure if it makes a difference that right now I do not have my own domain, I have a free account. Maybe my theme just doesn’t support it!

That’s right – Content Options is not available in Toujours.

You can use the More tag instead:

Let us know if you need further help!

    Hi!
I have the same problem but my theme is Twenty Ten.
I´d like to see the excerpts of the posts on my home page and a “continue reading” link at the end of each.
    Is it possible?
    Thanks!

    Hi @blogcuiprodest,

To add the excerpts for the posts:
    1) Click edit on whichever post you wish to show excerpts
    2) Locate side bar on the right where you will see “Post Settings”
    3) Click on “More Options” tab and below that you will see “Excerpt”.

To add a “Continue Reading” Link to the end of each post please follow @kathrynwp link about that does a step by step walk through with you :)

You can use the More tag instead:

    https://en.support.wordpress.com/more-tag/

Please let me know if that helped!

    Cheers,

    Ally

Hey there – just to clarify, you don’t actually need this step:

To add the excerpts for the posts:
    1) Click edit on whichever post you wish to show excerpts
    2) Locate side bar on the right where you will see “Post Settings”
    3) Click on “More Options” tab and below that you will see “Excerpt”.

When you insert the More tag, the post will split automatically at the point where you insert the tag. No need to add a manual excerpt.

blogcuiprodest – I would encourage you to consider another theme. Twenty Ten is a 7 year-old theme that’s not responsive, so it doesn’t adapt to mobile devices, making it very hard to read.

We have lots of newer two-column themes you might like to check out, including Penscratch 2, Nucleare, and Lovecraft.

    Hi,
I’ve got the same problem. Would it make a difference if I have a business account? Would it then be possible to only show excerpts of the posts in every kind of theme? I don’t want to add the more-tag to every single post I’ve written so far…
    thank you,
    Magda

Magda – the options you have depend on what theme you’re running. Could you please confirm which theme you’re asking about and the URL of the site in question? Thanks!

currently I use Argent, but I want to change to another one, like Nuclare or Twenty Fourteen…
    my site: highflyyyingmusic.wordpress.com
    thank you!

Nucleare and Twenty Fourteen are both older themes that don’t have an automatic “Continue Reading” option.

Penscratch 2 is a newer two-column blogging theme that does have the option to display excerpts automatically: https://penscratch2demo.wordpress.com/

Once active, if you go to the Customizer‘s Content Options panel, under Blog Display, choose “Post Excerpt.”
