How to add an image to the sidebar
OK, I know I sound like an idiot, but I can’t figure out how to get the image widget to work on my sidebar. The instructions state the following:
“You can get the Image URL by going to your Media Library and clicking on the Edit link under the photo you want to insert into your sidebar:
After clicking on the Edit button, you will want to copy the File URL by right-clicking or using CTRL + C on your keyboard.”
I’ve got the image uploaded to my library, but after apparent changes WordPress made a couple of months ago, the library no longer looks the same as in the example. When I hit the Edit button, I can’t find an image URL for this picture anywhere. Instead it provides a shortlink and a permalink. I don’t know what the difference is, but I’ve tried copying both in the URL line on the widget and neither one makes the image show.
I’d appreciate any help.
The blog I need help with is pegoleg.com.
Get the permalink URL first. Then create a draft post you will later delete and use these instructions to create the active link for your text widget. http://en.support.wordpress.com/links/text-widget-links/
You are going to create the active link first, switch to the Text (HTML) editor and copy the code for the active link, and paste that code into your text widget. After that’s done you will delete the draft post.
Thank you so much for your prompt response. I’m sorry to be so dense, but it’s as if you’re speaking a different language – I’m not getting it at all. Can you just direct me to where I can find the URL for the photos that are in my WordPress image library?
I apologize as I just read this again and see you said “image widget”.
I don’t see how “four link options prior to inserting the image on a post” pertains.
The image I want to put in the widget is sitting in my library. A permalink shows for that image, as well as a different shortlink, but neither seems to be the URL that the image widget is looking for. What am I missing?
I don’t even bother trying anymore pegoleg lol I’m far too lazy to stuff around on something that should be far easier?! Like WHY do you even need to go to such lengths? Anyhow, even a background or header is more straight forward… makes you wonder :D
Glad to know it’s not just me – I feel so incompetent!
Oh.. :) now that’s cute! Never feel that way, a lot seem to be ‘right into’ writing the css themselves and all sorts here.. I still think some things are tricky on purpose to get people to go Premium.. lol so good on them I probably would if it weren’t simply to pass time for me.
Hi there pegoleg,
So, this is a great question!
To find the file URL for your image, open the image in your media gallery:
Now, look on the right side of the screen – see the module that says “Save”?
The file URL is included there (and for this image is as follows:
I hope that helps!
Thank you so much! A friend walked me through this. When I opened the image I saw the “save” bar on the top of the right column but nothing underneath it. I didn’t realize if I hovered over it, a tiny, grey arrow appeared that I could “click to toggle” so the URL appeared. It worked!
So very glad I stayed subscribed to this post… Thanks Zandy ring, you’re an Angel ! :)
Just remembered it was a friends picture I had wanted to insert, an aeon ago.. lol, so have done so now between her tweets and website feed///
Thanks much! :)
Glad this helped!
