How do I transfer my domain name from another server to wordpress.com?

    I have seen a lot of information about how to purchase a domain name on wordpress.com, and how to transfer a wordpress.com domain name to another server. However, I am still confused about how to transfer an already-existing domain name, currently hosted on another server, to wordpress. What is the cost for this service and how do you do it? Thank you!

    If you would like to use your domain name purchased elsewhere and map from your free hosted wordpress.com blog to it, then you will first need to set up domain mapping. http://en.support.wordpress.com/domains/map-existing-domain/

    After you make the domain mapping purchase here > Dashboard > Store > My Upgrades and do the primary blog set up it can take between 24 – 72 hours for domain name propagation to take place throughout the internet. You can view the DNS changes here > http://www.whatsmydns.net/ What’s important during that stage is to be patient.

    Hi,

    Thanks, but I don’t quite understand what “mapping” means. Can I use wordpress.com as my web host, or do I have to keep paying the other host? Thanks.

    You don’t have to pay them for hosting, but if they’re the ones managing your domain name, you have to keep paying them for that. It’s an annual charge.
