How do I remove just one e-mail follower

I have an email follower that, for safety reasons, MUST be removed from following my blogs. I am seeing that there is no way to do this aside from making my entire blog private, which I do not want to do. Is there any way around this? My blogs are as follows:

I hope someone can help me work around this. Thanks!

The blog I need help with is

There is no workaround. We cannot block or delete subscribers from public blogs. Everyone on the internet can view and follow any public blog. That is in fact what the public designation means.

You can change your blog visibility to “private” Please read this about public blogs that become private blogs > Blog Privacy and Subscribers >

Note that you have complete control over everything that’s posted to your blog.
    comment moderation

You don’t have to post any comment submitted on your blog. Delete troll posts and mark only spam as spam. Just keep your blogging cool, delete them and move on. Do not mark them as spam because doing that is feeding false information to Akismet the spam filter.

Comments are not the issue. The issue is that when I post, this follower will receive an email from me, which will create a legal issue. So you’re saying since I can no longer contact this person for my own personal safety (hence, I can not ask them to please unsubscribe on their accord), I have to make my entire blog private? Throw away all my followers and everything, because one person decided to be nasty (outside of this site)? I understand the term “public designation,” but with all due respect, that’s just a bit ridiculous.

I am saying you have a single option open to you and it’s making the blog private.

In addition, one of the happiness engineers has made an offer to do it on a user’s behalf at

    I am thoroughly confused.

We Volunteers are not aware of what you referred to here

If Staff can and will do this then they need to update the support documentation to clearly state that option is available and in exactly which situations it is available. I have tagged this thread so that support documentation UPDATING happens ASAP.

Thank you for tagging. I apologize if I am short, it’s just very frustrating that by no wrongdoing of my own, I need to go to such sudden measures to prevent any contact with a very disturbed soul. Thanks for your support.

Ryan, since the topic is sensitive, I will send you an e-mail at the address listed in your account to follow-up directly.

timethief—I’ll get clarification and ensure the documentation is updated.

    Thanks all!

Frankly, I fail to understand how anyone reading anything on a public blog could be considered to be a threat unless the breach the law by uttering threats. Uttering threats is against the law and If anyone threatened me I would be reporting them to the police so quickly their head would spin.

Thanks so much for taking care of this as soon as you can.

@kraftbj – Thank you, I will look for that e-mail

@timethief – It is not the content of my blog, it is that a post will generate an e-mail with my name on it which will go straight to someone who will go to the police themselves when they see my name attached to said e-mail. I will not divulge the private details on this forum, but please understand that it’s nothing to do with the content of my blogs, which I would like to keep public. It has everything to do with the person on the other end of the e-mail that has probably long forgotten they ever subscribed, but will remember very quickly if I post again.

Thanks to both of you for your support and assistance.

Why on earth would you use a primary email address for a blog? I never do that. My primary email address is known only to those who will never share it. I would change that primary email address to a throwaway email address.

You have two separate email address settings at

Blog notifications for the admin (like comment moderation, Likes, new subscriptions, etc) are sent to the email address at Settings -> General in the Dashboard.

Personal notifications (like comments on your post, subscription emails, and upgrade renewals) are sent to the email address at Users -> Personal Settings in the Dashboard.

    Try changing it at!/settings/ first.

If that doesn’t work, try Users -> Personal Settings in your blog’s Dashboard.

Note: After the change you will receive an confirmation email. Please be sure to check your spam/junk mail filter in your email client, if you cannot locate it.

That is fantastic advice. Thank you!

this follower will receive an email from me, which will create a legal issue. So you’re saying since I can no longer contact this person for my own personal safety

@TT – while the documents say “can’t do” – there are other sections about pure legal issues and court orders – I don’t want to guess too much but if someone can’t contact someone for what sounds like legal or safety reasons – then sending them an email from the blog would in my eyes be a violation of “don’t contact” – putting the blog owner in a very tough position – wanting to do the correct thing (don’t contact) and not being able to do that – or being required to get a court order and serve it on WordPress.COM to try and get a subscriber removed

I do make a distinction between an email notification of a Post and someone being required to click on a link to visit a blog – two very different actions in my eyes – one I have no control over (the email in my box) and the second – being required to visit a site by my putting the URL in my browser

PS – the email sent to subscribers has the blog name and author name etc – but not the email of the blog owner or the authors – so the blog owner has privacy – however if the blog owner has someone contact them with a contact form and replies the privacy goes away – in this case the blog owner is writing with what I assume is their full name so that name would be very prominent in the email sent to subscribers

Yes @TT – sometimes a tough thing – then there are the people that want to delete a follower that is a jerk – or bad memory – not sure what the best answer is that will not have abuse from some direction
