How do I find access details for my host server?

    I’ve purchased a theme and I’m told I need to use FTP to upload it, but I can’t find the server address and log on details I need?

    I’ve purchased WordPress hosting, and pointed it to a domain I already own, but can’t find FTP access details to upload the theme.

    Hi there!

    For security reasons, we do not allow users FTP access to their WordPress.com site. What exactly are you trying to transfer?

    It is not possible to install themes on WordPress.com, for security reasons. Themes can only be installed on self-hosted WordPress blogs. If you are wondering how WordPress.com differs from WordPress.org, this support article explains the distinction:

    I’ve just paid £70 to have my blog hosted, and £35 for a custom theme.

    Are you telling me I can’t use custom themes with my WordPress hosting?

    If so, how do I get a refund so I can get my site hosted somewhere I can get it to work as I want and need?

    I’m more than happy to do those refunds for you! However, I only see the £70 charge for your WordPress.com Premium plan. Did you purchase the custom theme on a different account?

    Thanks Shawna, appreciate your help and willingness to look kindly on a newbie error :-).

    We purchased a theme from ThemeForest, and just assumed that the whole point in Themes was that they could be used with any WordPress hosting – especially when bought from WordPress themselves.

    I’m guessing though that that is not the case. If there’s no way I can use my theme with the WordPress hosting I just bought, then yes, I’d really appreciate a refund so I can find somewhere I can use that theme (it was a very specific one that I really wanted to use).

    I’m sorry for the confusion! Definitely let me know if I can answer any questions about the differences between WordPress.com and WordPress.org. I know it can be really confusing at first!

    I’ve refunded your £70 WordPress.com Premium upgrade. Please note, it normally takes around a week for a refund to appear on your bank statement.

    And definitely check out those links above about WordPress hosts and the WordPress.org forums. Those forums will be your new best friend in getting your self-hosted site up and running the way you want!
