How do I edit or remove tags and categories

    Hi,

    I’m having problems finding where I edit, rename or remove blog tags and categories. I can quite easily _add_ more tags/categories but once they’re there you can’t get rid of them (?).

    After googling for this particular problem I see examples of editing tags or categories from the ‘Posts’ menu, but this looks nothing like I see on screen.

    I just want to make sure, did you previously take a look at this support doc?

    Organize Posts with Tags

    If you open up the specific post that includes the tags you’re wanting to remove, you simply hit the X on that tag to remove it.

    Have you tried that?

    Hi Mariah,

    To clarify, I’m aware of how to remove an individual tag for a post, but what’s not clear is how I can rename an existing tag.

    For example, if I have an existing tag called “earl grey” and I’d like to change this to “earl-grey” how do i do this? If I attempt to add this new hyphenated version it automatically switches to the old tag (with a space). The same happens if I have an existing tag called “Fruit” – I want to rename this to “fruit”, but it switches to the capitalised version.

    Basically I’m looking for a way to remove old tags not used on any posts so I can re-add them later in a format that I’m happy with.

    Okay, I got what you’re saying.

    Go to your admin page.

    thehumblescone.wordpress.com/wp-admin

    Once there, click on posts, then tags. It will open up the tags you’ve used. Find the tag you are trying to edit. Hover over that tag and it will give you options on editing, deleting, etc.

    Click on edit and correct it to the tag you’re wanting to see. Hit update.

    You should then see the change you’ve made.

    Thanks for the link, it took me to the page I was trying to find but having no success. I’ve got my tags and categories sorted now, thanks again :)
