How can I show all comments to a topic directly underneath

Add topic to favorites
or at least 5 or so comments so you don’t have to click on a topic/post to see the comments….I’d really like members to see the comments right away..

and

This may defeat the purpose of a blog or transform it to a chat room (I’m not hip to the jive lingo yet) but I’d like for members to be able to post a topic for others to respond to as well, like an “open” blog if you will…is this possible or what exactly am I looking for?

On the first point, you can’t. That’s now how blogs on wordpress.com work. And just think how long your front page would become with the comments showing.

On the second, there’s a twitter-like theme that might meet your needs. It’s called Prologue and is available in your dashboard under Design.

that’s what I was thinking :(
Don’t think the Prologue design will work because it is very limited and just enables one topic of discussion

Most people who read blogs are familiar with how they work and I’ve never found it to be a hardship to click to read comments.

There are some free forum hosts around, although I’m not familiar with any from an admin standpoint. You could link to a forum from your blog.
