How can I restore the social media share counts for my last blog post?
-
My share counts for my last blog post have reset. When I published it on Monday, I had over 50 shares via Twitter and FB by the end of the day. Then yesterday, those counts disappeared and now it looks like I’ve had hardly any, even though I know I have. Can I restore them at all? Hi @woodbeez48,
Did you happen to change the permalink for the post by change (the part after the date in the URL like this “how-to-list-a-goodreads-giveaway-and-post-c2c-festival-fatigue)? It looks like several changes were made to the title. So, I was wondering if the post URL was adjusted at all.

Well, there’s a 24-48 hour period where you can’t resurrect a title, or WP.com puts -2 on the end of it. Perhaps if you wait 48 hours?

Okay, thanks. So if I changed it on Weds, by Friday, you think I might be able to change it back? Thanks so much for your help :)

I believe we can still pull back the social metrics if we change the permalink on the post (no need to change the title). You can use the Edit link shown here to change the permalink:
Can you try changing that back to the original value (that was shared on social media)?
The -2 would normally only be appended if a post existed on your site (trash or elsewhere) with the same URL. I’m not seeing that on your site at the moment.

Yay! That did it :) Thank you so much everyone for your help. Jeremey, you really are a Happiness Engineer ;)
