How can I force Youtube embeds to include the "allowfullscreen" parameter?

Do Youtube shortcodes provide the option to add “allowfullscreen” as an iframe parameter? The documentation makes no reference to them, but without this many modern browsers do not get the fullscreen option with the embed.

If the shortcode does not support it, is there another way to embed the video where I can preserve that parameter?

The blog I need help with is blog.pacerpro.com.

When I embed a youtube video by just pasting the URL into the post editor window, I get this:

    http://monkeybutler.wordpress.com/2014/01/08/testing-youtube-embed-2/

I see the full screen option just fine.

If you are seeing something different, please make a draft post that displays the issue and let me know the title. That will help a lot with troubleshooting.

I believe the issue is that individuals’ browsers can be set to HTML5 and this behaves deifferently, so you can be seeing something different than me. It’s widely reported on the web.

If you’d like to see an example of my video embed see the latest post on http://blog.pacerpro.com. However, as I said, you may not see the same lack of full screen button as I. Adding the fullscreen attribute fixes the issue.

Is there any way to add code outside of the shortcode method on WordPress.com? If I can manually add the iframe tag then I could solve this problem.

There is not. We do not allow certain tags on WordPress.com for security reasons, including JavaScript, Flash, iframe, form, and input tags. These restrictions are in place to prevent any disruptions in service due to potentially malicious code.

You can read more about this here:

I will do some research on the fullscreen issue and see if I can find anything out.

Just so I’m clear, what browser configuration are you using that causes the full screen option to not appear?

    Thanks, @rootjosh.
For us the issue is happening on the latest release of Chrome on Mac, but it’s an artifact of the browser having turned on the HTML5 Youtube option on this page: http://youtube.com/html5. More and more users have this option selected and hence will not see the fullscreen toggle.

    Cheers!

So, the short answer is that I am going to make a request to our developers to take a look at the issue.

The longer answer is that it this may just end up being one of those things that really needs to be addressed from the youtube end of things. There doesn’t seem to be any obvious reason why they are restricting the full screen option on HTML5 embeds. But there may very well be something on the backend that isn’t obvious to the general public.
