  I want to have a custom HOME PAGE. I want the rest of the site to be as a theme is set. How can I customize a theme so that the HOME PAGE is my OWN DESIGN while the rest of a theme is how the theme is originally set to be?

  Hi, first of all I’d recommend to create a static home page and put all the needed content there. Here you will find some guidelines on that: https://en.support.wordpress.com/pages/front-page/

  Once the home page is ready and working, write down a list of all changes you would like to have done to it and post it on the CSS Customization forum https://en.forums.wordpress.com/forum/css-customization
  Our CSS wizards will surely find some way to achieve the results you need.
