  Under my homepage settings, document area, I clicked on Attach Calendar and selected “After Content.” But that is putting my events calendar at the very top of my homepage, which I do NOT want. How do unattach the calendar??

  Can you give us the URL (link) to the website where you are having this issue?

  I notice that (at the time of writing this) your account is 3 hours old and you started this thread 3 hours ago, so I’m suspecting your issue is not with a WordPress.com hosted website, but a self-hosted WordPress.org website.
