Homepage not uploading in Pages List

  • On the “Pages” tab where you can see a list of all the pages of the site, my homepage (which is currently untitled) leads to a blog post when I click on it. However, when I click on the “Appearance – > Customize” link button the correct homepage does upload. How do I get the correct home page to show on the pages list?

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

  • Hi there,

Can you confirm your website address please?
We’ll then be able to take a look for you :)

    Thanks!

  • Thanks for confirming :)

From the website dashboard, if you click on Appearance > Editor (beta), you should then have the option to edit the home page visually. This will be using the block editor.

You can find out more information about this, including a more detailed how-to guide here:
    https://wordpress.com/support/wordpress-editor/

I hope that helps but please just reply if you need more information!

  • Yes I know how to do that and that is leading to the correct home page, my issue is when I try and access the home page through the “pages” list as seen here https://ibb.co/xL6cxkt. It leads to this blog post (https://ibb.co/KwBRbn0) versus the actual home page.

  • Hi there,

It’s showing your post, because currently that page only contains a Query Loop block, and the Query Loop block is used to insert your recent posts into a page. So you’re actually seeing the content of the Query Loop block:

    https://d.pr/i/jY5Mmh

If you don’t want your homepage to show your latest posts, delete that Query Loop block, and insert your actual homepage content instead.

From the website dashboard, if you click on Appearance > Editor (beta), you should then have the option to edit the home page visually. This will be using the block editor.

Just a clarification here: when you’re in the site editor at Appearace ->Editor, you’re editing your theme’s templates. In other words, any change you make there to the Page template, for example, will affect ALL pages you create on the site.

To edit the content of a specific page, you instead use the page editor at Pages ->All Pages.

The link @rbgly provided above, https://wordpress.com/support/wordpress-editor/, is actually for the latter.

For information on editing your templates using the site editor, you can see https://wordpress.com/en/support/site-editor/ instead.

I see you’ve already added some content to the template in the site editor. To fix that, go to Appearance ->Editor, click the template name at the top, and click Clear Customizations to restore the default blocks in the template. Then you can edit the actual homepage as I described above instead to add your homepage content there.

Let me know if you have any questions.

  • Apologies for the delay!

Did you start editing the home page via the WordPress site editor initially?

If so, I believe this will override the pages version of your home page, depending on the theme used and whether the home page has been set (in this case it has).

More information can be found about the Site Editor here:
    https://wordpress.com/support/site-editor/#when-to-use-the-site-editor

I’ll tag this post with modlook so hopefully a member of staff can confirm or clarify for you :)

  • Ah, I see @kokkieh has already replied to clarify. Thanks! :)

  • Hi @kokkieh,
I think I fixed everything per your instructions above, just need help with this bit: “I see you’ve already added some content to the template in the site editor. To fix that, go to Appearance ->Editor, click the template name at the top, and click Clear Customizations to restore the default blocks in the template. ” I don’t know where you’re finding the “template name” at the top, can you send a screenshot please

  • Ah nevermind I found it! Thanks for y’alls help!
