Help. Two admin sites are different and can’t get the Widget I need?
-
I downloaded WP to my domain, but made the mistake at first of making updates directly to my WP account vs my admin account. When I was told I had to make updates to my admin site, it is different. The themes are different and there is only about half the Widgets. The subscribe widget is not there, I need it but don’t know how to get it. Does anyone know why the two admin sites are so different and how I can get the same features on both?
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

WordPress.COM has a lot of widgets that are unique to wordpress.COM. Most of them you can duplicate on a self-hosted blog through plugins, but you will have to search over at wordpress.ORG in the plugins pages to find those plugins.
As far as themes, that is entirely up to you. You have to either search and fine one you want to use over in the themes section at wordpress.ORG or you have to search the internet and find one and then you have to install it.
Thing of wordpress.COM as buying preassembled furniture. WordPress.ORG is… partially assembled; you have to do all the final assembly, sand it down, stain it and put the finishing coats of varnish on it.

I’m new at this and you guys seem quite knowledgeable. I was referred to an article about moving from WordPress.com to WordPress.org, which was the same thing I tried earlier, which was to export my account info from one I set up and like, and import it the functioning one. However, the file created by the “export” function apparently wasn’t an xml file so the “import” function gave me an “invalid file” error? But I didn’t see where I could have done anything differently. Do you know how to generate and export a xml file that can be imported without error?

If you are exporting from here at wordpress.COM, then there should not have been any errors unless something happened with the export file and it is corrupted somehow.
I would delete that file from your computer, export it again from tools > export and then make sure and don’t open that file or anything and go directly to the dashboard of the new blog and go to tools > import and try the import again.

I did retry and was successful, but it only transferred my initial blog, but not the theme, widgets or other setup? I would like to transfer everything from my WordPress.com blog to what appears to be a WordPress.org blog that was installed to my domain name, even though it said it was installing WordPress.com. I believe this is the same goal/issue that tiffany?? recently posted a question about in the forum? Is this possible without completely transferring the first blogsetup and losing ownership of the name and everything?

I answered you here > https://en.forums.wordpress.com/topic/transfering-my-wordpresscom-blog-to-a-wordpressorg-site?replies=5#post-526579Also note that some of the widgets we have on WordPress.com are custom widgets and they will not be in your WordPress.org install.

You should also make friends over at WordPress.ORG the keepers of the software you are using: http://wordpress.org/support/
