HELP!!!!! MEchele in NY
-
Is there anyone who can talk to on the phone? My brain hurts. I searched the support site upside down and backwards for an 800#. Please help…MEchele my cell [removed].
I am just getting started…The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)
-
No phone support – this is a peer support forum with most of the help provided by your fellow bloggers – if there are problems we can’t help you with, we refer you to the staff
What problems specific are you having?

There are getting started videos here: http://learn.wordpress.com/
Getting started guides here: http://en.support.wordpress.com/

I am getting no where fast it seems. OK…I have a domain that I set up through wordpress already. And now I am trying to build the blog. I cant even get the first page done :( I want to be able to upload videos so I believe I need to have a paid site…not a complimentary one correct?
I’ve tried to watch a you tbe tutorial but that just got me ore confused. It said to make a domain from Gator. -
Be careful of videos – if they told you to get a domain from Gator you are not watching the correct videos – many videos are for WordPress.ORG installs, you are on WordPress.COM
For more on the difference: http://support.wordpress.com/com-vs-org/
Watching videos here is much safer and help keep you from getting confused

Maybe, Maybe Not
Several easy ways to get video on your site with no extra cost
You can get a free Vimeo or YouTube account and put the videos there and then embed them here – no extra charge – I have done both
-
woo hoo…I am getting there!
Ok next…how do I change the main banner image on top of my blog?
-
This is a link to the step by step learn WordPress.com blogging tutorial. which is the only one relevant to the blog you have http://learn.wordpress.com
This is a link to the support documentation which is found also on the bottom of your Admin page http://support.wordpress.com
custom header image search results http://en.support.wordpress.com/themes/custom-header-image/ -
And look how much money we have already saved you!! :)
Nice of you to have the same theme that I use for the header
Dashboard >> Appearance >> Header >>
You need a 940 x 198 px picture – do the editing on your PC so that no scaling is required, the scaling can reduce the quality of the image – also don’t put some 4 MB image up there – get it down around 100k max – that is to keep the load time fast for your visitors
-
Great minds think a ike ( we have same theme! ironic or WHAT?)… OK, I will try to upload a pic under the guidelines you have stated…yet another learning curve for me. Ugh..
Thank you! I will visit the links you sent! Keep you posted. -
You be welcome & good luck
One suggestion for the help forum – use a good title for any questions, everyone by definition (except the spammers) that post here are looking for some sort of help with their blog – a good title helps us to know what help is needed, some of us do better at one type of question or another,

@mechelemcgready
Hi again,
Here’s a link to my post on How to Get Better, Faster Support at WordPress.com -
ok will do, I will be more cognizant of the title for my questions in an effort to help others who may be having the same questions as I .

Another point to take note of is the tutorials you find online are for WordPress.ORG software and not for WordPress.com free hosted blogs. Read the comparison here > http://support.wordpress.com/com-vs-org/ That is why I provided the link to the learn WordPress.com tutorial prepared by staff and the link to the relevant support documentation above. -
Same links I left earlier
Also look back in the forum – many times you can find your question already ask and answered in the last few days – when I started I did not ask many questions, but I read a lot of questions ask by others – and the threads many times have the back and forth as a person asks for clarification on a point they did not fully understand
Also I have flagged this for the staff to remove your phone #
On your blog – if you add the Follow by email Widget you can get followers that don’t do Twitter
