Has anyone experienced random bursts of popularity, all of a sudden?

I cannot help to notice that, in a period of pause from blogging (mentioned in the latest post), after a normal drop in my stats, suddenly I had a ginormous number of visitors, on a Wednsday… My guess is that WordPress has a policy of reviving one’s hope, when the traffic is low, even if it means inventing readers. A kind of Facebook trick.
Has anyone dealt with the same impression, so far?…The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Nope, we don’t invent readers, though it would be nice if we did, I’d love to see that on my own stats sometimes. :)
I took a look at your stats that day, and the majority of your visitors that day came from Facebook.
Perhaps someone shared a link with their friends?

Well, no offense (and it is possible that I don’t understand quite well the terms, english is not my native language), but the “referrer” tells me that only 4 of them were from Fb. And, though I admit it is possible, I cannot imagine a sudden 53, after a series of 1 and 2, for almost a very dry week (in posts)…

I don’t have FB yet. But it is interesting in a random way, how there is a certain burst of interest on very specific blog post or 2 across several countries for a few days.

Not all views have referrers. Some visit directly, some come from a link they received via email or feed reader, and some have security software that filters their referrer.
If you’re noticing a burst on a specific post, more than likely someone shared it as a point of interest.
It’s also possible that the burst could be bots indexing your site.
Either way, we don’t manufacture fake stats.

OR (and I just know this because of my own stats) it’s possible that you get more hits on certain days of the week. Like I get more hits friday and saturday because of my blog s topic.

Oki, that’s all possible, indeed, with the adnotation that it was the home page that received the most visits, so it wasn’t a shared post. Bots could be an answer, but it’s still odd that it happened abruptly… Anyway, thanx for the feed-back, it didn’t cleared all of my doubts, but it gave me alternatives. Then again, it wasn’t a big issue. And (off-the-record), if somehow you have a rogue operator with good intentions, please ask him to take me off the list, I’m not in blogging for the benefits of celebrity. Ofcourse, if you can find him and it is not too much to ask. In your debt…
