Gists from the Next Page Do Not Get Loaded When Scrooling Down
-
There are couple of gists in my blog (https://viliampucik.wordpress.com) however only those on the first page get loaded. The others, located only after scrolling the page, do not get loaded at all. I have to click on the blog post to have their content loaded.
Please is there a way to fix that?
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Hi, @viliampucik,
Is this resolved? As I just visited your site and as I scroll down, everything is there.
Could it have been a connection issue?
Let me know if the issue is still there.
-
Are you sure you have seen gist codes in say “SOA Checking” or “Pure Perl Configuration File” blog entries while scrolling the home page?
In my case I have not see them. I have tried Firefox and Chrome, on PC and on mobile as well, however the issue is still there.
Thanks for checking, I appreciate that :)
-
Oh,now I see what you mean. Thanks for the blog post titles. So, basically, the gist code shows the code on the blog post but not the preview for those, right?
One thing to check:
How are you calling the gist? Shortcode or URL? See Gist Support Doc:
https://en.support.wordpress.com/gist/I am wondering if that might be the difference but I’m going to take another look.
Is this something that recently disappeared?
-
Yes, you are correct, the preview does not show the gist code.
Regarding calling the gist I tried both. I used URLs and then switches to ID based shortcodes.
I am not sure if his is something that recently disappeared. because I migrated my blog from Blogger to WordPress just couple of days ago.
My observation about the issue is that when scrolling WordPress just injects
<script src="https://gist.github.com/..."></script>
into the DOM however it does not runeval()
on the newly created node so JavaScript code is never executed nor its output is displayed. -
Ahh, so WordPress.com needs the short codes not the scripts.
My guess is you had to put a bunch of script code in for blogger but WordPress.com doesn’t need that – just the links for shortcodes.
I’m going to give this thread the modlook tag for staff to take a look b/c I want to make sure you are getting the right info after your migration, and I don’t send you down the wrong path.
No one wants that. :)
Note to Staff Member: Site is viliampucik.wordpress.com
Moved from blogger a few days ago.
Some gist links previewing on the home page and some are not.
I think this is due to script code from blogger in the migration. Please confirm.
Thanks for the help! -
Howdy folks, I’m noticing the gists all work once you click through to the posts, but they aren’t working on the archive pages, correct? For example, I’m seeing the gist here:
https://viliampucik.wordpress.com/2012/02/28/pure-perl-configuration-file/But some of the gists on the posts page don’t work: apparently only after we have to load more posts for infinite scroll, right?
@viliampucik typically when I see infinite scroll issues, it’s something going on with the theme. Would you be against temporarily changing to another theme to see if you have the same issue? If so, let me know; I can try setting up similar conditions on a test site.
Also, thank you for helping here, @happyathometoday :)
-
@happyathometoday: Thanks for the suggestion and help :) I have tried many of the free themes and experienced the issue in each of them.
Just a side question: Is there a way to disable infinite scrolling and turn to clasdic paging on my blog in WordPress.com? Just asking.
-
@supernovia that is correct on your understanding of the issue, and you are welcome. Thanks for jumping in.
@viliampucik Apparently, you can according to this support doc:
https://en.support.wordpress.com/infinite-scroll/#disabling-infinite-scroll -
@happyathometoday: Thanks again for the pointer! I have just disabled infinitely scroll however gists are still not loading when I click on the Older post button.

Okay. I’ve done some digging and I see the issue, and it looks like it’s a bit complex.
I’ve filed my comments and suggestions in a bug report, but in the meantime, would you consider using a theme that displays excerpts instead of full posts in the blog list?
You can find some here:
https://wordpress.com/themes/filter/blog-excerptsSeveral themes have the ability to display excerpts or full posts on the front page, too; if you opted for one of those, you could switch the setting once this is fixed.
That said, given your subject matter, I’d imagine most folks who find or follow your site are reading individual posts for the thing they need, rather than reading through the posts page.
-
@supernovia: Thank you for filling the bug report and the suggestion. Personally I do not mind waiting for the fix. My microblog is a low priority thing mostly used by me for notes storing and it would be convenient to see the code on the home page for easier copy&pasting as I experienced with Blogger.
