Gallery won't display as described

  • I recently (in the past few months) changed my WP gallery plugin to the “Responsive Media Gallery Plugin for wordpress” because I wanted to have them display as as such click here to see the style examples

However, it will not display as indicated, and continues to look, like this:
My gallery page as viewed by a site visitor.

Moreso, when I change the text on images, it will not display the new wording.

I am not a WP expert by any means, so I don’t know what is wrong here.

    thanks for your help,
    JRC

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

  • Update/additional notes: There seems to be something perhaps larger at work here. Around the time I updated the plugin I also switched my blog to have it hosted by directnic. It is still accessible at the wp address and hasn’t switched to a wp .org address, but doesn’t show any of the newer posts if I access it via the older version of the CMS page.
I am very confused by this.

    Again, thanks for the help,
    JRC

  • Hi there,

Looks like you’re in the wrong forum. It appears that you’re using the open-source WordPress.org software and you need to seek help at these forums:

    https://wordpress.org/support/forums/

These forums are for WordPress.com hosted sites only. If you want to know more about the differences between WordPress.com and WordPress.org you can read this document:

    WordPress.com vs. WordPress.org

  • Hi, yes, I’ve been trying to sort that out, I’ve read that com-v-org explanation a bunch, but I can’t understand it, when my wp site has a .com suffix, see:
    https://onewordlong.wordpress.com/
    https://wordpress.com/view/www.onewordlong.com

    Thanks, JRC

  • Those links are for two completely different sites.

https://onewordlong.wordpress.com/ is a WordPress.com site in your account, but that site hasn’t been updated since April 2018. You also have another WordPress.com site at https://flimspringfield.wordpress.com/

http://www.onewordlong.com/ is not hosted on WordPress.com, but a stand-alone WordPress site built with the open source WordPress.org software, and hosted by https://directnic.com/. This site is listed in your WordPress.com account because you have it connected here using the Jetpack plugin, but all that plugin does is allow you to manage certain aspects of that site using the WordPress.com interface.

It does not give us any control over your site, and we cannot help with any issues caused by plugins you’re using for that site. For help with any specific plugin it’s best to contact support for that particular plugin directly.

https://wordpress.com/view/www.onewordlong.com is a direct link for the site preview for that site which appears if you select that site on WordPress.com and click on View Site. That link is only accessible to you as the site admin.

but I can’t understand it, when my wp site has a .com suffix,

The fact that your domain has a .com extension is irrelevant, as the domain has nothing to do with the software that is running on your server and which hosting provider is in control of that server. The domain is just the public address people use to access the site’s files on your hosting provider’s server.

  • … is a WordPress.com site in your account, but that site hasn’t been updated since April 2018.

But that’s literally the same site, if you look at both the directnic hosted one and it, all the posts are the same up to April 2018. The only thing that’s changed is the theme.

“…site on WordPress.com and click on View Site. That link is only accessible to you as the site admin.”

Okay, see that’s the thing that always confuses me, because that’s where I do all my CMS work. So in my head, I’m still working on a wp .com site. Nothing I work with has a wp .org extension.

The fact that your domain has a .com extension is irrelevant,

I know that, I’m only talking about the wp .com extensions, not the site as it is hosted and viewed by visitors.

I’d like to apologize for asking questions and getting off topic like this, but this is the only time I’ve had an opportunity to sort out these issues.

    thank you for your time.

  • Simply put https://onewordlong.wordpress.com/ is located here on WordPress.com servers. It uses a modified version of the wordpress software. Support for that site is right here.

onewordlong.com is found at a different host on a different server somewhere else entirely. It uses the WordPress.org software. That is where the .org bit comes from. Jetpack just connects that site to this WordPress.com account. Support for that site is found at the .org forum.

  • JRC, I just want to add that in this case, your best bet is contacting support for the plugin.

Going forward, if you’d like to have access to direct support here, you’d be welcome to move the site back to our hosted services if you’d like. Here’s our pricing:
    https://wordpress.com/pricing/

This includes hosting, SSL, direct WordPress support, maintenance, security, and many other features that tend to cost extra with other hosting providers.

Or, if you want to continue running your own installation, you can do that too. You’ll just want to use the correct community forums for help:
    https://wordpress.org/support/forums/

  • thanks for all the help and context.
    I’m learning a lot.
